Crazy KA detection? (Kind of Long)

we don't have undercover leos working traffic in Houston. Best you might get is Harris County Sherrif Deputies in unmarked slick top crown vics but they're always white with blacked out windows and spotlights. Not hard to spot at all. In fact during the precinct 7 crackdown last year I slowed down approaching an unmarked that I thought might be a marked slick top but when I got closer I discovered it was one of the unmarked units.

This Ka issue has hit my SR7 a few of times with LEOs following CO from the rear. The SR7 has about a .7 miles range from the rear so you can't always see them following you. More reason I would like to have the V1s arrows.

Oh sh*+. I forgot about the dual antanaes. They could be in front shooting towards the rear. That's possible too.

If you look carefully at Overstock's web site, you will note that radar detector warranties are provided by the distributor, not the manufacturer. Belscort doesn't use distributors -- they ship directly to their authorized dealers. Your X50 is a refurbished unit (likely refurbished in Mexico from what I've read). Reading your post, I too would say that your X50 is not performing properly. Return it for a full refund ASAP and then buy one from an authorized dealer or direct from Escort.

How do X50s get "refurbished" in Mexico? Escort doesn't do business via Mexican companies as far as I know. I think this is a rumor and nothing more.
Buckeye's X50 is a "lemon" no doubt and he should send it back immediately, that's for certain.

I have posted several messages about the risks of buying an Escort and/or Beltronics product from an unauthorized dealer, but what I found out today takes the cake.

For the past several weeks, Overstock has been selling Escorts and Bels $20.00 to $30.00 below our prices. They are NOT authorized dealers and Escort/Bel did NOT sell to them direct.

So today I went to their site and "chatted" with Rodney. He admitted that these were factory reconditioned units and when I tried to press him into a corner about not having a factory warranty, he told me to buy theirs for an extra $30.00 (this would then cost more then a new unit with a factory warranty)

This is an easy one, if it is being sold on Ebay, Craig's list, Overstock or other "dealers" that are not authorized you will NOT have a warranty.

In one situation that I know of, but cannot go into detail because of legal steps being taken. One Ebay dealer was just taken down for putting on their own counterfeit serial numbers on one maufactures unit.

The manufacture figured out something was amiss when people started calling in problems with their detectors and they all had THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER!

The bottom line here is that the X50 in question is defective and should be returned before the 30 day window expires. Overstock.com detectors may in fact be new stock that some retailer has decided to unload quickly for cash by selling the stock off to Overstock for resale.
At best though this is just another example of trying to save a few bucks and getting something less than what you expected.
RadarBusters is the place to buy if you're not going to buy direct from Escort.

Well thanks for all the help guys... The problem seemed to be gone for the most part but then just yesterday I was sitting in the parking garage at work and I get full KA for 30 seconds, then it just stopped. I have had enough and I am in the process of returning this POS right now...

I guess I learned my lesson, thats the last time I am trying to save 50 bucks. (I'm an intern... thats 5 hours of work for me)

For now I will go detectorless but I will probably try and get an X50 or STI sometime in the near future... thanks again guys

Don't go detectorless... You can get an Excellent BEL or WHISTLER for under $250.

Get your money back for the defective X50 ASAP and buy another RD from an authorized reseller. I'm not trying to grill ya, I do the same with most things (shopping around). However, it seems for some things that you just need to fork over the extra bucks and get the warranty and guarantee from the manufacturer, like RDs.

Just don't lose faith in RDs and the X50 just from this incident. Trust me, I'm fairly new to this RD deal (I got mine about 3 weeks ago or so) and I'm loving it. Countless saves already.
