Did Escort ever make an 8500 "non X50" Blue?

yeah... NO theres only the X50 in blue theoretically it IS possible by swapping in an X50 Blue display board onto an 8500 base, but its VERY unlikely

how hard would it be to change the display out of a 8500 and replace it with a x50 blue one?

Probably not hard if you're good with a soldering iron. I wonder if you could put a blue X50 display into an RX65 and really have something unique. Problem there is you can't get a blue RX65 lens.

actually easier than you might think, you just need to desolder 11 points, slip the board out, line up the pins on the transplantee, and solder those into the new PCB, not hard at all, but LEDs are a bit heat sensitive so you might need a heatsink of some sort to clip onto the pin when soldering

Someone on here did something like that. They had a blue display and a red lens... the end result was a purple display

As for swapping displays, if anyone does this they should be sure to use low heat with their soldering iron, word has it that these displays are heat-sensitive....
