    Hi Kris,

You're welcome! BTW, welcome to the forum.

Cranking up your truck just when the radar detector happened to be doing its self calibration definitely can throw a self cal error message! I always power up my radar detector after I have started my car, and I always power off my radar detector before turning off my car engine. Also, never leave your radar detector baking in the sun when you park your car since excessive heat can cause problems.

    Best Regards,

If you call Escort they will tell you it is normal to see once in a while. Nothing to worry about. If it starts Slef Calibrating all the time, and you get the service required messages afterwards then it will be time for service soon. A hard reset usually gets the detector going again, but once the messages become frequent they will only happen more and more. Seems to be heat that causes this. The one that I had that did it really bad was a unit I left in the car all the time. It was sometimes too hot to touch...and it was always super hot when it gave me trouble. At night, or on cool days it worked flawlessly.

the other gave a single serv. required one time, and never again since.

The way I see it, it's a whole lot better than a detector failing, and NOT letting you know about it.

You are right but that's still bad news. Kind of your wife saying, "Let's see if Vigra helps things". Get my point?

My X50 displayed "self cal" once a couple months ago and I haven't seen it again since.

But its always in the back of my mind if its just going to randomly start doing it again.
