I saw a guy with his cobra mounted more than 60 deg tilted under the horizontal plane...it was almost hanging straight down.

I wanted to say something but the fact that it was a cobra probably wouldn't have made a difference....

The 9500i features a totally downward flared RD horn. Mounting it precisely level allows it to more effectively pick up reflections off of your car's hood. Likewise mounting an STi, which also has a nearly totally downward flared radar horn, perfectly level will allow the STi to more effectively pick up reflections off of your car's hood. CJR's post once again makes me want to suggest that X50 and Vector M4 owners try mounting their RDs such that they point 5 degrees downward since the M4 horns in these RDs flare upward. I have been waiting for a long time for people to test this idea with their M4 X50s and M4 Vectors and report if they get a slight increase in range. Its one of those "I just have to know" things with me.

I think this is some kind of SITI project [Searching for Inner Terrestrial Inteligence]. But other users point their Cobras direct to the sky - they are regular SETI participants.

Would there be any benefits to tilting a S7 vector slightly upward/downward? I must have spent at least 1/2 hour during the past couple days at random times staring at the RD to see if its level in the new location.

I would not necessarily claim there is, but all logic would imply one way is better than another if there was no outher choice.
You will get more reflections from the M4 design flaring to the road & hood than the S7 flaring toward the sky hoping for a reflection from a flying plain, or tree branch.

I’m not suggesting any angle will definitely work, level is key. But if you have no other choice and need to do one way or another:
-M4 as striate as possible... or slight angle up if absolutely necessary...not down!
-S7 as striate as possible... or slight angle down if absolutely necessary... not up!

Note: Just slightly off a degree or two wont matter that much. Obviously there are curves, hills & unleveled roads that essentially have your RD unleveled from the oncoming radar all the time.

I would love to test it too, you got me thinking about it ever since you suggested the idea. I’m sure the results would be negligible, if at all but the logic of it intrigues me.
