Default Just purchased an Escort 9500i - thanks to all of you

    Hi
I've been lurking on here for a few days, doing research on which radar detector to purchase. After reading many post I decided on the 9500i.

I have a 2007 Red Corvette and just got it past the 500 mile mark. So now I can go a "little" faster than 55mph.

I purchased the 9500i yesterday and immediately hooked it up. I went for a "test drive" of the RD yesterday evening. It was very quiet, I almost thought that it was not working properly. That is until I got to an area frequented by the police and radar (where they got me a few years ago). No police in site - no beeps.

Then all at once the voice starts telling me KA, KA. I'm looking for signs of the police and don't see anyone at all. After about 1/4 mile, I look in my review mirror and guess what I see. Sneaking up on me from behind is a police car. I was doing below the speed limit at that point. Then I see him do an illegal U-turn and go the other way. HaHa!!

I would definately say that it is working great! I have to make trips back and forth from St. Louis to Chicago to see my son who is away at college, so this will be great for that long stretch of highway between the two.

So, thanks for all your help in deciding what to buy.

I'm sure you will enjoy your new 9500i. Hmm, I guess its also time to get fresh oil and a new oil filter into your Corvette since it is now past its 500 mile mark. At least that is what I was taught. I don't know if this applies anymore for modern engines?

Just be carefully when using the lockout feature. Keep us updated with your experience.

    HI
I hadn't heard that about the oil and filter change. The dealership didn't say anything about it. I'll have to give them a call and find out.

This car is the most awesome one that I have owned. I had a 1994 and a 1996 that I traded in on this Vette. They have really reduced the noise level inside the car, it's so quiet. I hardly stepped on the gas and was at 100mph (just for a few seconds)

I took the car out on the highway today and put it in "highway" mode. Definately beeped appropriately. This was the first time I heard it beep really fast - their was a police car going the other way on the highway- he was definately after someone and running radar on them.

I love the fact that it displays my speed when it detects something. Really great feature.

Does this Escort detect behind me? It sure seemed to last night. I've had to mount it a little higher today, I noticed that where it hits the back - my car's back end comes up.

Another question for all of you. If I do get pulled over should I take it down before the police come to my window? Are they more likely to ticket me if they see it and it's obvious?

yes. And it works well because the interior of your car will bounce the radar all over for it to pick it up.

leave it up, just hard wire it high above or to the left of the RVM. that’s the plus owning a low car like the Vette, unless the LEO is 3 feet tall he’s not going to be able to bend down far enough to see it. You don’t want to be fumbling around while the LEO is puling you over.

When mounting your 9500i above RVM, make sure you change the brightness setting specially during day time. The auto dimming feature of the 9500i is not as good as the STi since the sensor in on top.

Thanks for the response to my questions. Hardwiring it up high is a fantastic idea. I know I can't do this myself, where do I take it to get it done? Is this something that the dealership could do for me? Thanks

Look on the Vette sites. There is a bracket that you can get that bolts up to one of the visor mounts and sticks the detector between windshield and visor. Literally just take a phillips screwdriver, undo half the visor, put the bracket in between teh visor part and the headliner and screw it back. You can just hardwire the detector to the power from the rearview mirror (you can buy a kit for this too). It is easy and good.

A dealership could do it but it would be better to bring it to a local Belscort dealer who installs. They will have the hard wire with mute button.

By the way, you’re a female?
