    Default Escort SRX

I had my new SRX installed today. I gave me excellent distance on the permanently installed local K band fixed speed sign, even around an uphill corner, but poor distance on a mobile Ka band speed sign. I was in the second lane over in heavy traffic for the Ka band sign. My radar unit was installed very low behind the plastic bumper cover due to a lack of places to install it on my Mustang.
I was thinking of going back and having them reinstall the radar unit behind the front grill, if it will fit. Anyone think this will help? Also, how can I know that the shifter was enabled? I looked in all my literature and could not find anything about this.

I can't remember if all srx had the laser shifter but if you got the model that did, then you can try some remote controls in front of the car and see if you get the shift message. I'm not sure how the laser shifter works in terms of when it shifts. If it depends on the laser detection of the radar detector, it might need adjustment. But I'm guessing it has its own (which again, I'm not sure if it'd respond to remote controls or real laser sources only). I'm sure in time you'll find out after you've gotten a laser hit.

edit: I just realized the sr7 is only the radar part, but the srx is the complete package. Give remote controls a shot.

You'll have to take out the grill, you can't have it behind the grill that will screw your performance

Are you sure because i asked Roy this question about this because i want to install the RX75 antenna behind my Mercury Milan waterfall plastic grill, and he said it would be fine.If it won't work there, then i'll have to mount it under my license plate holder.

Try to test the unit on a real radar source not a speed sign, speed signs for the most part are never accurate and not a good test.

I would use it for another week or so, and see how it works with real police radar.

    Default Picture load help

I have pictures ready to post, but I am embarassed to say I couldn't figure out how to post them. If someone could help me with this, I would appreciate it.

Also, I went by the same Ka band source and got much better warning this time, about 0.3 miles according to my dashboard readout. I have gotten anywhere from 0.8 to 1.1 miles on the numerous K band speed postings around Long Beach. I found it interesting that in a place where there are 2 of these signs right across the street from each other, each is K band of a different frequency, which I guess makes sense to avoid interference.

The remote control vs. laser testing did not work out. None of my 9 remote controls will trigger the laser detector/shifter, neither will the $30 laser pointer I purchased at Radio Shack. Obviously none of these sources are within the detectable wavelength. Any other ideas on how to test this function that does not involve my friendly neighborhood LBPD?

If you push the function and mode buttons simultaneously it switches to program mode. As you press the function key through the options you'll see "SHIFTER ON" or "SHIFTER OFF". If it's off just push the mode button and it should toggle to on. I've tested mine with a infrared TV remote. But I had to trial a shoebox full of remotes before I found one that worked.
