My 8500 X50 proved it's mettle in a true trial by fire tonight, saving me a grand total of FOUR times....
Three of the four saves happened on Route 236 in Eliot, a long, straight road with a 35-45 MPH speed limit, it's tempting to speed here, as it's a long, straight, level, flat road, saves happened around 10:00-10:15 PM, my speed was PSL, if not 5 under
Save 1; Rte 236 Dow Highway West, Instant-On Ka;
I was driving over to the 7-11 in Eliot, travelling westbound, and had just passed the Irving station, where I was tagged with a full-strength blast of IO Ka, probably no more than 20 car lengths away, I was the lead car here, no detector would have saved me had I been speeding...., the cruiser passes me, and the Ka alert falls off to 2-3 dots, but never goes out, in fact, it starts slowly increasing, leading to....
Save 2; Rte 236 Dow Highway West, Constant On Ka;
As I continue on 236 West, the Ka alert ramps up in intensity, I keep my speed to 5 under, as my headlights reflect off the retroreflective logos of *ANOTHER* Eliot PD cruiser coming towards me, running Constant On, I'm not sure if he can see me as it's dark out, but I give him a freindly wave and a nod as we pass
I arrive at the 7-11 and get my snacks, get back in the car and head back to 236 Eastbound, there seem to be a lot of cruisers out, and I really want to see the X50 strut it's stuff....
And the X50 does not dissapoint, my next encounter seems innocuous enough, and happens sooner than expected....
Save 3; Rte 236 Dow Highway East, steady Constant On Ka Ahead;
Travelling back towards home, I start getting a steady 3 dot Ka alert, steady, unchanging, not getting stronger, not getting weaker, I come upon some slower traffic, two cars ahead of me are doing 5 under, given the police presence tonight, it doesn't bother me, after all, *two* rabbits are better than none.....
As a line of traffic in the opposing lane zips past me, the two cars ahead start *slowing down*, the Ka climbs momentarily to 4 dots, then drops to two....
And back to a screaming *FULL ALERT*....
My *LEAD* Rabbit, is not a rabbit, but an Eliot PD Cruiser!, and he's turning to make a *kill*!, he barrels off after a car in the opposing lane, my Rabbit speeds up to PSL, as do I, I glance in my rearview mirror to see blue lights flip on in the far distance, the cruiser's made a kill!
Heh, I got a small chuckle out of that one, some poor sod's going to have a bad rest of the evening tonight, as I turn back onto Beech road to head back home, I thank Almighty Og (Smasher of the Clueless) and the engineers at Escort Radar that my X50 performed with flying colours (well, mainly red, to be honest)
Imagine my surprise, when I encounter...
Save 4; Beech Road, Instant On Ka (weak)
As I'm driving up the hill towards home, the X50 emits a weak Ka alert, two siren pulses and "Ka" on the display, no dots at all, given the police activity on 236 tonight, I keep it to 5 under PSL here too....
As *ANOTHER* Eliot PD cruiser comes towards me in the opposite lane, no radar this time, I clearly caught a reflection of him tagging another vehicle with Instant-On
Thankfully, the rest of the drive home was uneventful, no more police cruisers were encountered, still, I kept to 5 under the rest of the way home....
Thank you, Escort Radar, and THANK YOU! to my wonderful little X50 for truly proving it's worth
