Default K band video sudden ramp-up

I posted this already in the videos forum but wanted comments here on the detection and ramp-up. Is this an example of the rapid "intentional" sudden ramp-up? Honestly, most of my ramp-ups, true or false, seem to be like this. My detector does have the ramp-up "update".

I couldn't tell where the actual LEO was in that video, was that him in the SUV on the right facing the driver?

Under the conditions in that video, rapid speed, numerous tree's and all those cars in front of him I'd consider that ramp up to be rather normal for CO K band.

The driver was close enough to be getting a strong signal, however had numerous factors that would have been breaking the received signal at the same time. There was some ramp up sputter from the detector breaking to announce the voice alert, but beyond that for those conditions I'd consider that normal and acceptable.

You can't get a good feel for the actual ramp up unless your on a wide open completely unobstructed stretch of road and you just drive into the signal. Then you'll notice a very smooth and linear build up of the alert.

If any detector was presenting you with a smooth ramp up in that exact situation of that video I'd suspect some type of artificial filtering taking place to make the detector do so, not the detector actually reporting the true signal as it was being received.

If the audio signal matches the visual signal meter(which we can't see in the video), then the audio rampup is perfect. Now, why you didn't get a clean constant signal from the LEO running C/O K band is another issue. I would guess it had something to do with the forest of trees between you and the LEO, since the LEO was off the road somewhat, just a guess.

If the officer is the one at about 23/4 seconds into the video... It could be:

    A) The forest of trees as the above have mentioned or...

    B) It almost sort of sounds like 2-different bursts of non-conservative I/O (almost like its his first time using it and he is a bit trigger happy) it seems like he hits it from 3-7/8seconds on the first boost.. Then he seems the long train of cars infront of you... and hits it again @10/11-20seconds clocking 'all' of those cars... then he powers it down again. You seem to pass him at about 24 seconds but the 9500i is already ramping down at ~20ish, which to me suggests instant on, but bad (generous) use of it at that. ALSO it seems like it ramps up so fast at 15/16 Because you start to go around the bend and change lanes. Instead of the cars blocking the radar waves, its reflecting between their right sides, and the trees to your right, dead into the 9500i.

Again, I think B is pretty darn accurate.
Honestly, I think its a combination of the trees, and cars ahead with the ramp up, AND I think its 'generous' use of I/O not constant on.

Actually the BIG green sign and the LEO off the road made the ramp up decrease in the middle. watch as lacning74 angle to the LEO and sign line up partly blocking the signal.

If your experiencing the same ramp up (excluding the sign blockage) it sounded pretty good to me.

I am sure the sign was blocking a fair amount of the signal (along with the trees and the cars ahead of him, but it seems to me to be I/O not constant on, to me at least). In anycase, its a save, and IMHO thats a very tough situation to determine accurate ramp-up. Too many variables.

You made me go back and look for a sign, I didn't even see the sign the first time, I was too busy playing look for the LEO. See it was a car, not an SUV, but yes thats him there on the right.

Looks like he almost has to be aiming right at that sign to catch people just as they come into view.

I like that move you made there too of scooting over to the right lane for travel so you don't stand out as a speeder but look more like you're just cruising.

You can't be detecting that well through all those tree's, thats some pretty thick stuff there so the signal has to be getting reflected down the right side of the cars further up the road like AirMoore indicated, that would give you some rather irregular reception. There's that one car way up there traveling in the right lane it looks like your pack is working on passing. He's likely the cause of the irregular report, I notice as soon as he's past the LEO and that green sign then you go into a full strength alert, which would be expected.

That's a pretty sneaky spot he has there for someone without a detector or without other cars up the road ahead of them. I'll bet its even better for him in the summer time when those trees have all their leaves.

Yep, pretty nice spot for a radar trap. I'd bet that you'd be within 1000 ft or so before you could see him. That's well within targeting range.

Thanks for the detailed analysis. It's a lot of fun analyzing video in retrospect especially since my mind is just focused on evasion during the actual encounter. Certainly, the bend, trees, and sign would account for the ramp-up. I never had experience with the much talked about X50 ramp-up so I have nothing really to compare to. I was just curious. In this case, that sudden jump to full-strength really got my attention.

I hope to have more videos soon. I also plan to hook up a back-up camera that activates not only with the reverse light but with a momentary switch to catch the chase.
