    Default 8500 x50 questions...

What is the difference between the red/blue versions? I routinely see the red priced 30-50 dollars below blue, so i'm guessing that price difference is not based simply on color preference...

Also, how does the laser sensitivity stack up to a beltronics rx65, or even down the the bel vector 955?

I am hoping to get an x50 to use with a ZR3 jammer, does anyone run this setup, and if so how effective is it? Or any input in general would be greatly appreciated

If your getting a jammer anyhow then I wouldn't worry about laser sensitivity in a detector, but instead focus on which detector is better for radar. Let both devices do what they are best intended for.

You may want to hold off on getting the ZR3 as well, even though you can get a great price on them right now, Escort just dropped the price $150. They are phasing it out and replacing it with the ZR4 thats expected to come out in 1-2 months. Supposedly the ZR4 is going to be considerably better than the ZR3 so it may be worth your while to wait and see.

Just hate to see you buy something and then find out in 1-2 months from now you discover something even better came out.

haha yeah i've been reading about the new ZR4 but the truth is that when it does come out i won't have enough money (or, wont want to spend that amount of money) so i guess my question is does the ZR3 do the job? The ZR4 may be a little fancier and may give an increased window to decelerate but if i only go over PSL by 15 MPH or so, would the ZR3 give me enough time to avoid tickets?

and ive also heard that bel products generally detect laser better than escort, any truth there?

Just from reading what people who are using jammers have to say is all I can go off of. I was going to get a ZR3 myself, but then decided to hold off for the ZR4. People do indicate rather heavily that there are better laser jammer systems out than the ZR3, not sure though how much of that is based on actual fact or just hype and favoritism. Everyone does so far seem to be looking at the ZR4 with open optimism at least.

I will be selling my used SRX in a couple weeks once my 9500ci is installed. There will probably be several other ones out there for the same reason.

^ That's really, really, really faulty thinking.....

Unless your local threat is nearly purely PL-IIIs (and, to an extent, the 100PPS UL, although this is a more rarified encounter), then to think that the ZR3 will do you any good at all - unless you're driving an extremely LIDAR-profile favorable vehicle - you're just spending money for nothing.

Your "not wanting to spend that amount of money" will come about to bite you in the back-side, when you receive that LIDAR ticket.....

Currently, the only reason to get the ZR3 would be if your most frequently traveled area enforcement carried profiles favorable to the use of this rather dated jammer. Combined with effective layering of furhter passive protective devices, yes, I can see how this may be a cost-effective way to protect yourself, particularly if you can score a ZR3 on-the-cheap, and also if you do not speed excessively/habitually.

You'll really have to meet all of these criteria, together, in order for the ZR3 to be justified.

But if your situation is anything other than that - then you're sadly mistaken. In my most humble view, INCOMPLETE protection is even worse than no protection at all - as the former gives you a sense of false security, which can then lead you into that ticket, as well as the exponentially more financially debilitating factor of increased insurance premiums (which can take years to lower).

I would advise you to, currently, just slow down a bit - and wait for the ZR4 to come out and be tested by independent hobbyists, if "integration" is so important to you.

In the mean time, that extra money you've saved towards getting this new jammer can - if the ZR4 is found to not be as effective as its cost would imply - then be shunted towards the purchase of any of today's laser-diode based jammers (LI, LPP, or AL - no particular order of preference) which all offer proven superior protection.

I run this settup on my 350Z and the SRX on my wife's Magnum.

The Magnum has two saves from laser in GA. (in one trip!)

The Z has a few saves as well.

All but one of the saves were the PL III gun. The other leo had the gun out of view by the time I found him.

On the way back from Orlando, we were driving both cars at the same time, and my X-50 (rev 5) picked up a Ka alert much sooner than her SRX. We both had plenty of warning, but I think my X-50's position, just below my rear-view mirror, is better than the SRX's position, low on her bumper.

For Escort's sake I hope the ZR4 is up there. The only reason everyone is not running a diode-based jammer is that they're 'difficult' to get.
