I like all of the things on your wish list, many of us have indicated we'd like a way to see both Spec Display and Expert Mode at the same time.
I myself was looking at my 9500i just the other day and thought having the buttons on the top of the detector could be improved, for my own application at least.
I run mine mounted directly under my RVM, so with the buttons on top of it I don't have any access to them without taking the thing down. No big deal, but, seeing as how the preferred method of mounting is typically as high as possible it would make more sense to me if they would have placed the buttons on the bottom of the case instead. Or possibly even built in an option for you to select the direction in which the display reads, so you could flip it over, have the buttons then on top or bottom, and control the display so it would read either way.
The ability to lock out from the mute button helps a lot, but still when I want to use the location mark feature it becomes a bit more of a hassle for me than it needs to be. If you mount it further down on most windshields where you would have access to the top mounted buttons it usually becomes as much of a problem because it then gets out of reach if you're wearing a seat belt.
I wouldn't want the buttons to be placed universal on the front of it, I like the clean look of not having any buttons on the face, so having the option to make the display read right side up if the detector is inverted for easier access to the buttons seems like it would be a good solution or option to have.
I've considered taking mine apart after the warranty period is over to see if the display could easily be physically flipped over inside the housing just so I can mount the entire thing upside down and have easier access to my buttons yet still have the display read the right way.
Why would Belscort downgrade their product to bring it down to the level of the V1?Originally Posted by SAfricanCracker

You can roll your eyes if you want, I know I wouldn't trade my 9500i for a V1 and I doubt many 9500i owners would either. I consider the 9500i a superior product.Originally Posted by davekr

Oh yeah - I forgot that one. And as far as I can see there should easily be room on the display for both.Originally Posted by Esoterica
The buttons on top are a little awkward when making on the fly adjustments, but if they were forward facing then running in dark mode would kind of be defeated. I suppose overall they work where they are because they are not visible from behind while in dark mode, but you at least have **some** backlighting to find the buttons.Originally Posted by Esoterica
Yeah - that would be nice. Personally I'd like the ability to tilt the front display towards the driver a little more. The V1 does a nice job of angling the display.Originally Posted by Esoterica
I wonder how that would affect GPS reception/orientation.Originally Posted by Esoterica
I wouldn't want the buttons on the front, just think it would have been better to mount them on the bottom of it just like they are currently mounted on the top of it. Most people are going to mount visor level or just slightly below the RVM, so having the buttons on the bottom of it would make more sense. Its current design with the buttons on the top make it seem as though the cobra users who you always see dash mounted was the type of customer they had in mind when they did that.
I don't think inverting it would actually hurt GPS reception (significantly). I've had mine at times mounted tight against the roof on the visor, GPS still worked. I've also at times when in California, where the suction cups are illegal, have seen LEO's coming up to pass me from behind. Not wanting him to easily notice the suction cups while beside me I've often reached up, pulled it down real quick and lay it in the cup holder mid way on my dash, usually upside down, and it maintains its GPS lock the entire time while doing this, often times for as long as 15 minutes or more depending on how long he takes to get past me and up the road.
Its a good point though, likely their thinking behind putting the buttons on top, to encourage lower mounting for better GPS reception and avoid GPS related complaints.
Along the lines of GPS reception, an external antenna port would be nice, especially driving in dense urban areas.
Have you consider using 3M Dual Lock (it's like velcro on steroids) instead of suction cups?Originally Posted by Esoterica
I find suction cups annoying (mostly in cold weather), but using Dual Lock results in a more stable, almost "semi permanent" mount which doesn't have to be removed and reattached every time I exit the vehicle.
