Default Upgradeing from 4500 to 8500

I recently purchased an escort 8500 (non-X50) to replace my first detector (a 4500) I had the 4500 hard wired to the remote-on lead to the radio and would like to do the same for the 8500. I have the smart cord but don't care for the LEDs or the mute button. using the phone jack method, can i just wire in the 12v (+) and ground or is there a voltage regulator involved?

    thanks.

I think since you do not like the smartcord, just get a hardwire kit about 10 bucks.

You could make your own. I personally like the factory cord, or the factory concealed display. I have both. Factory is much easier to install and seems to be a little heavier to me.
Congrats on your upgrade, and that must be quite an upgrade, although I never owned the 4500. Luck to u

I've been able to do some additional research and found that a simple hardwire isn't too difficult. The question is do i want a remote mute switch and do i want a remote LED alert?

    mmmm...decisions decisions.

I'd say so if i hadn't already installed somthing similar. I ran the power/ground wires under the dash, up the A pillar and under the upper windshield trim to the mirror.

Does anyone know the voltage output of the alert LED in the smart cord?
