their differences are why comparing IS NOT pointless. Most people don't have money to throw away on several different detectors....so they "compare" the differences between the two top of the line dash mounted detectors - and as I've explained....
one is annoying with falses unless the complete band of falses are shutoff - but has the added ability to point an arrow to the front or back...
...and one is not annoying once trained - and still alerts to real sources of that same band that is usually annoying false.
Having to be constantly annoyed by falses in every day driving, or else making yourself suseptable by shutting off that particular band doesnt come close to weighing out the added ability to have an arrow for front or back.
Like I said before and I'll say again - you get an alert - and you slow down (unless you've been desensitized by the countless falses you get). And unless your an idiot, you don't decide you're SAFE until you physically see where the source is coming from. No arrow gives you that ability.

I think it's a personality thing. Some people like to hear their RDs go off for some reason. Others, like me, don't like to hear their RDs go off unless it's a LEO. In fairness however, the V1 with X band off and K band muted as much as allowed via programming, works pretty well in the city for me. This does come at the price talked about earlier in this thread about X band being turned off. On the highway, the V1 is better than the 9500i, where the arrows work perfectly and the increased sensitivity is also a plus.
They both are awesome, but different.
Ok say ur gettin a c/o Ka alert from a leo on the highway..so ur picking him up and 1 mile down the road is another leo who just shot a burst of i/o Ka..all ur gonna see is ur Ka bar fully lit up as ur passing the first leo and u will have no idea about the second one..with a v1 the arrow points ahead for Ka...ramps up perfectly, and then u hear the bogey tone go off since u picked up the second leo shootin i/o Ka..the v1 reads 2 bogeys both ahead, then the 2nd bogey dissappears because this is i/o..u pass the first leo and the arro goes behind but you are still aware there is another leo up the road because u picked up the second bogey for just a few seconds..real world the v1 is the best in all situations..ALex roy uses it and all gumball 3000 participants use it...that should tell u something
Hearing it go off constantly = Desensitization
Hearing it go off and 9 times out 10 is legit LEO = Immediate reaction to slow
How in the hell could anyone ENJOY hearing a constant brap from the dash?
I hate it as a driver, and any passenger I know hates it even more.
1 is good for ALL around.......1 is good for HIGHWAY period.
The fact is, I don't want to rule out ANY band of threat 100%. It's a risk I wouldnt take. To have the ability to remain quiet but alert for legit threats is pricless.
Buy a 9500i and scotch tape a red arrow up and down to the faceplate.

The 9500i should ramp up for the first, and stay up for the 2nd.
As mentioned before...if you can trust your detector enough to know that when it alerts its legit, you know that you still are not clear of a threat if its still going off after passing the LEO. It's fairly rare to have this situation come up anyway. And even if it did, I'd still be protected.
Also as mentioned before....when was the last time I was a Gumball 3000 participant to make the V1 worth my while?

IE vs firefox
this forums VB software, vs the old style
a PC, vs a mac
same purposes COMPLETELY different
as much as you wish to hope they are not, they are completely different in almost every way, what works for one user, for instance you, the 9500i, might not work for someone else
why are you talking about the gumball? just because there was once a link posted about some driver that used 3 v1's?, the gumball races have no bearing on either of these detectors, the v1 is a bit more sensative than the 9500i, i've found this through my own testing, along with GOL tests, and most others, when your doing what they do, every little bit matters, which is probably why they selected the v1
the 9500i is an amazing detector and i wouldn't skip a beat suggesting it, depending on the persons needs
the same goes with the v1
which goes back to, two completely different detectors
i've used both, they are very different
