I haven't had a radar detector in a long time, ever since my vehicle got broken into and my crappy one got stolen. Last 30 days I have received two speeding tickets. Hopefully this little bugger will help with that.
    Hi hansenc,

Glad to help. Sorry to hear about the two speeding tickets. Please keep in mind that any RD -- even the best ones such as the 9500i -- are no guarantee against future speeding tickets. RDs are merely tools to use intelligently while you drive.

While you are at BB, you also might want to take a look at some of their various padded point-and-shoot camera cases and see if they have one which your 9500i will snugly fit into. If they don't have an ideal case, maybe CC or Walmart will. That way you can put your 9500i in the padded case and toss it in your glove box or under your car seat when you park your car so that it isn't visible to thieves. A padded case also insulates the RD against heat buildup in your car when you park it in the blazing sun for hours.

Understand and most the time I am pretty good about my speed, both times were just bad place and bad time. Plus I think for some reason my out of state tags are a target. Just need that little bit of warning. both times I was with the flow of traffic behind everyone. Just an easy target I guess.

I did pick up a small case that it fits right into. It will have a nice home in my glove box while out and about in public.

Out of state tags -- do ya think?

Suggest putting it under a car seat -- thieves rifle the glove box first after grabbing anything else which is in plain sight.

The suction cups didn't look used but they did have some what looked to be water spots on the outside of the cup. I'm thinking I got someone's returned device.

I will test it in a vehicle later tonight and post back with findings.

The last four of the serial # are 1408.

I know Best Buy usually will mark down an open box item, most Belscorts I ever had have never been perfect out of the box, close but never perfect.

Here's a video of my 9500i that had a firmware problem. This might help to see if yours sounds normal or not, although I'm not sure you if the audio is good enough to tell:

Mine is pretty much crystal clear. Different than your problem I believe is when i hooked mine up to an amplified speaker I got some crackling (electrical noise). Got some chokes from Radio Shack and it cleared it up.

My guess is there was some electronic noise when loading the voiceover to the 9500I and its just coming through when its voice prompting.

Well I tried the radar out in another vehicle this morning with the engine off and it does the same thing so I went a head and returned it to best buy this morning.

Best Buy gave me no problems, a manager wasn't around do walk out to the vehicle with me but they said if it has the problem just bring it back and they will exchange it again.

I went out to my vehicle and opened this one up, looks good, on small mark on the unit that i guess was just from putting it in to the package. It rubbed right off. Has some felt on it from being inside the case but thats about it. I plugged it in and sure enough it doesn't have the sound... right away, soon after i noticed that it does have the high pitched noise but it doesn't seem as bad. I'm going to go ahead and keep this one, it seems its just the radar itself and not a defect.

I have a feeling I'm going to be turning off voice alerts anyways in the next week or so once I learn the tones.

Now to decide if X band needs to be turned off or not .

Its a 9500I, no need to turn off X, just lock them out.

You might try a EMI/RFI fighter Choke Core from Radio shack, possibly get a big one and coil the power cord around it once. In the end the voice alert is just a voice recording going through a small speaker so its not going to be perfect.

    Thanks CJR238!

I will pick some up and put them in place when I hard wire the unit into my new vehicle. I'm so excited to have a radar again, I took the long way home from best buy just to see if I could find a cop!
