Owned a V1 for almost 5 years and will never go back to it. If you live in an area that is consider a decently-sized city, don't bother. That thing will beep all day long. So much, in fact, you'll mute and ignore it, which defeats the purpose of a detector. After seeing a friend's 9500i, I immediately fell in love and pre-ordered the 9500ix. Just waiting for it to arrive.

Good move, In Chicago, no matter what I do with my V-1, it beeps incessantly with all kinds of garbage. You'll love the silence of he 9500iX until you NEED it. I pass the same LEO everyday and also the same police station where they never seem to turn off their units, even when parked, and the Ix is picking him up about 2 seconds before my V-1 ever did (same place, same LEO). The nice thing is, it has AUTONoX too , which totally turns off X since no one in Illinois uses that anyway for speed enforcemnent. You'll ove the iX and its adjustability and ease of internet updating.

If you know your area you will not have a problem using a V1.

Default Escort ALWAYS wants too much money for upgrades as far as I'm concerned

The fact that the 9500ix costs the same as the 9500i blue is unusual in itself.

Whistler is not going to be upgrading everyone's 690 to the new 695 for free. VR is not going to be upgrading everyone's V1 to their latest version for free. LI will be charging a small fee for any update necessary to combat the new LTI Truspeed LIDAR gun. Better products cost more money than inferior products. That's just the deal.

I will be sending my 9500i in for this upgrade when it is available. Any 9500i owner that thinks this fee is unreasonable can show their disapproval by refusing to pay it. Simple as that.
Free? How about reasonable? $629 plus shipping reasonable all totaled for a detector 3 months new? No biggie to me as I don't need all of that..don't need it around here...don't even use TL myself...I mostly use my RD's to know when I'm being surveiled, plus being a Ham, radio is a hobby...but:

After my big fat escort died on me, I bought the "newer, smaller" escort on ebay years ago for $40..the one with the "security key"..loved it..still have and use it...along with my 9500i and V1...out of curiosity I emailed them about making it a non keyed detector..this was in '02 btw... they replied:

It is good to hear from you! Your detector has been discontinued for some time.
We no longer have access to the machinery required to make the security key for
the older models. If you wish, we can repair the detector and make it a
"keyless" model for $89.95. You will never have to use the key again, and we
will re-tune and calibrate your detector while it is here.
Please give us a call and we will be glad to go over the details with you and
answer any questions you might have.
Thanks for your interest in Escort!

When the problem is the constant annoying beeping to and from work every freaking day, than it doesn't matter whether you know the area or not. The only difference is that you go from thinking, "Woah, cops? Where? Where?" to "Ugh, damn you CVS! Whatever happened to the manual doors? Then they wonder how this country is so fat...".

So far I have logged about 1500 miles on the unit, still doing some more driving with the unit.
