Escort 8500 X50 Not Detecting Some Radar

Dear All:

I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50 that I've been using for years and it has saved me many times. Recently while traveling in upper Westchester NY (Route 9, Bear Mountain Parkway) I noticed NYS Troopers aiming radar guns at me, but I am not receiving any alarms at all. Is there a new type of radar being used my Escort cannot pick up?

I've read in the manual where POP is turned off by default, I will change that tonight, but would still expect some response as the trooper switches back and forth.

Any ideas?

Leon....

Just because you pass cops doesn't mean they are running radar. I would go to a CVS or Walmart and drive by the doors to see if it working.

Also reset the unit, to make sure you didn't shut off any bands by mistake.

^^ When you say, "aiming radar guns at me" are they pointing the device at you through an open window? If so, it probably is laser. How old is the detector? Does it detect laser?

X2 probably laser. The X50 doesn't have the best laser sensor in the world so if you got shot with it there's a good chance it didn't alert. Also make sure you didn't turn any bands off besides POP. POP is just useless....

Thanks for the response.

I drove through an assault of troopers this morning and the lead car definitely had the gun pointed into traffic.

Down the road, several cars were pulled over by multiple troopers.

The detector does work in other situations as it has saved my butt.
