Hidden 9500ci feature?

Hi everyone,

Today, just for fun, I tried just about every button combination which I could think of while powering up my 9500ci. We all know, as documented in the instruction manual, that you can hold down the VOL and SENS buttons while powering up the 9500ci in order to reset it to its factory default settings.

Here is one button combination which I can't find any documentation for:

Holding down the SENS and MRK buttons during power-up caused the 9500ci to briefly display 'ERASE?'. I tried this twice and decided, what the heck and pressed the mute button while 'ERASE' was being displayed. The 9500ci displayed 'ERASING' for several seconds and then went blank. I waited several seconds and then pressed the power button again, after which my 9500ci started up as usual. I figured that I erased all marked locations, but since it took so long, I wonder if I erased the RLC database as well? I am away from home at the moment, so I have no real way of checking until tomorrow when I can hunt down a couple of known RLC intersections.

It may also erase all updates you have done, and possibly revert back to the pre-programming from the factory?


In other words: If Escort makes a 'bad' update (major unforeseen glitch) via the USB; they could tell their users to erase the update how you suggested, and they would at least have the unit in Factory form until a fix can be created.


Just another possibility... good find though! Can't wait to see what comes of this.

I'll bet it erased the RLC database. I will find out tomorrow though! Yeah, I can update it again with my computer.

My Ex has a new husband with kids and is out of my life forever. But, if she burst into flames it would be a bonus.

Maybe I need to give the 9500ci a try.

I don't know if my ex-wife burst into flames, but I can confirm that ERASE does erase all stored data -- all locked out and marked locations and the entire RLC database! Well, now we know what this hidden feature is for.
