    Default 9500ix review

I'm really satisfied with the 9500ix, it smokes the 34.7 Ka in my area even if it's forward facing. K band is even more sensitive, I had a huge save with it on a road with alot of curves and while it was in a truelocked area! It's alot more sensitive than my X50 was on 35.5 as well. Also, I had 2 laser encounters with it (stalker lz1, prolite) and they were both within 500ft and it detected both of them, alerting as the same time as my LI , my X50 would usualy alert on the 2nd hit after I cut the LI off.

I feel like I need more 35.5 Ka protection, though. It's good with off-axis 35.5 but really bad with forward facing and I/O 35.5. I'm probably going to buy an STi-R, sell that and my 9500ix and buy a 9500CI, if escort fixes that ramp up! haha

My favorite part is that I don't have to press mute 20 times a day just because 2-3 cops in my area use K band.

Several people have been commenting about how the 9500ix seems to perform extraordinarily well -- especially on K band. This gets me to thinking that possibly the 9500ix provides better performance than the 9500i. I can't wait for GOL to test both of them at their next radar detector testing event!

I have been considering a new high end detector, I am considering one with GPS. I am considering the 9500ix or possibly the new GX65. The difference in cost is about 30.00. According to the Escort webpage the 9500ix is 499.00, the GX65 is 469.00 on the Beltronics page. It would be interesting to know if this any big difference between the two.

That's odd. I have noticed on-axis Ka performance on par with my V1 but K-band performance is more like my rev 5 X50. (My V1 smokes both the X50 and ix on K band.)

Don't get me wrong, all three own K-band LEO's, but if that new low-powered K-band photo van is a threat, the V1 is the only (windshield mount) one I would trust against it.

    Hi Whistler1,

The somewhat more expensive 9500ix, compared to the GX65, provides the additional feature of automatically locking out false alerts. The two other significant differences are the audio alert tones and the alert ramp-up profile. The GX65 features a very linear alert ramp-up profile whereas the 9500ix features an alert ramp-up profile which is boosted in the very weak to middle received signal strength range.

The GX65's linear ramp-up is nice since it lets you accurately gauge your distance from the radar source, yet the 9500ix's ramp-up is better at quickly getting your attention in over-the-hill and around-the curve encounters. On the other hand, the 9500ix's ramp-up is more annoying around town when encountering false alerts.

Most people here prefer the 9500ix's alert tones since those tones really get your attention. Yet these alert tones are more annoying to passengers within your car. Bel's GX65 alert tones generally are considered to be less annoying -- especially for passengers in your car.

One thing which hasn't been compared are the actual detection performances of both of these very new radar detector models. The only thing which I can say for sure is that the 9500ix or GX65 will definitely perform as well as the 9500i model.

Yeah, doesn't euro mode on the V1 increase the K band sensitivity by alot, something like that? I'm not worried about the best K detection I have more than enough, plus they don't use those vans in my area, they hardly ever even have speed signs here.

Based on what active cited in his OP, in terms of performance against forward, facing, off-axis, and I/O 35.5 Ka, versus what I've observed against mine - combined with what you reported atop, Z1, I am wondering if perhaps simple production variances could be an issue?

The 9500ix is a gem. Automatically wipes out all false signals. Very sensitive around curves and crests of hills. Speed cams, it saved me a ticket. Updating is the only way to go.
