9500ix High Frequency Ringing w/ voice alerts???

My cousin just got the 9500ix, but says that whenever there's a voice alert, this very high pitched almost ringing sound is present throughout the entire voice alert. He says its kinda annoying, but he just wants to know if its normal? Most adults probably can't hear it because of their older age.

I found it to be a good thing because you hear the sound before the alert so you respond quicker, also you can hear it through loud music, allowing you to be alert to weak signals even when you turn the music up

and for the record it does seem to only be on max volume now that i think of it..but i think that just makes it harder or easier to hear it

Mine does not make a ringing noise. I keep it on Max volume at all times.

There is some background high pitch noise when it voice alerts. Only a small percentage of people can even here it.

Thought so. It was purchased at a local Best Buy. I guess all the units do it.

Oh quick question. Is there any way to tell the manufacturing date from looking at the serial number on the box? I know on the unit it says like 36 08 or something, but looking at the serial number, is it possible?
