My 9500ci picks up rear radar as well as my V1, which is remarkable if you consider that the V1 has a rear facing radar antenna and my 9500ci is mounted with the entire car between it and the radar source. Both my V1 and 9500ci detect this LEO's radar for about 2 miles after I passed him.

Man, after watching your video, it makes me realize what it would be like to run a V1 in town. At least you knew it was real radar by the way your ci was picking it up. With the V1, it would have been going off every 2 blocks anyway.

My V1 has X and K off, so when it goes off, it's either a LEO, an Infiniti or a Cobra.

I think this needs to go in the wiki section or a everything rd section. You don't need a rear antenna or a clear view of the back to get rear detection.
My friend who has a cobra, will not hardwire it and keeps it in the middle of his windshield visible to every leo around. He says that if he mounts it high it wont have a view of the rear of the car for rear detection.
One he has a cobra its not going to matter, and two its going to give you about the same performance as it mounted in the middle of the windshield.

Along with a lot of questions we get all the time and advanced questions that would help people better understand radar detectors.

Thanks for all the replies and help. I do most of the correct things to avoid leo...slow down at top of overpass...watch for brake light at top of overpasses (saved me saturday...hpd with laser at 610 and 45 north bound)...always checking the rear view...checking the service road, ect...all this combined with a r/d should improve my chances of not getting caught...but nothing is 100%.

Can't seem to find anybody in Houston that does quality r/d installs. I'm somewhat of a wrench and going to give it a go myself...at least I know it will be done right!

I've seen a couple of ci's on ebay...around $1000 or so...claim to be unopened...one person still has the receipt and unopened as well...should I consider buying one of these units on ebay or strictly from escort?

Thanks again for all the help! btw...called my lawyer today...$200 to start. My violation was 104 in a 65. According to the leo...he got me at 94...then I accelerated up to 104...told me he had to do 135 to catch me. Makes me think he was using c/o??

Your probably not going to beat it but, I would watch out you might get your license revoked. About the install theirs a lot of rd.net users in texas that would probably be more than likely to help you. So gl bro

If you buy the 9500ci off of Ebay, you are likely going to end up with a $1000 RD with no warranty and no updates.

It still could have been I/O. He could have just left it on once he saw he was going after you, to have a tracking history.

As for buying it from ebay, I think I would bite the bullet and get it from an authorized dealer. Wouldn't want a 1000 piece of electronic that doesn't work.
