AutoScan vs. AutoSensitivity

Beltronics and Escort are now the same company/ownership I believe, and both the X50 and the X65 have auto 'filtering' capabilities. The escort website states:

Exclusive Auto Sensitivity Mode

Intelligent AutoSensitivity™ mode provides maximum radar detection range, while virtually eliminating annoying false alarms from motion sensors, automatic door openers, etc. Highway and City settings are also provided.

The Bel states:

New AutoScan™ mode
virtually eliminates false alarms

I have no idea how the detector can differentiate between a motion senser and a real police threat since they are on the same frequencies or so, but has anyone tested the two modes to see if they actually are the same or more so, filter ANYTHING, I have noticed on my X65 when I put AutoScan it makes K and Ka waaay more sensitive, the slightest thing will set off maybe an alert to K4/K5 when normally in highway it would be K1/K2 etc.

HIGHWAY mode is supposed to be the most sensitive... have you compared AUTO with this?

Puttin mine on Auto reduced the falses a lot on X and K band motion sensors and City was even better.

Stealthjamal is 100% correct. Autoscan/autosensitivity wil;l only affect X band. I have talked about this with people at escort.

When i was putting it on auto i wasnt getting these door openers from far like i was detecting them on highway mode. Most of the time it was going off full blast when i was 20 feets away instead of detecting it from like 1000 feets. does it makes a diffrence if they are opening or not??? Maybe it was this.

I agree with these because according to my own experience neither K or Ka are affected with any Auto mode most of the time (Ka is never affected)

Auto mode usually does make my detector more sensitive if it hasnt alerted in the past 60 seconds, when it reaches a motion sensor (K band) it will suddenly spike to level 4 then bump down to 2 or 1, when it usually reports 1 or 2 to begin with.

According to the Beltronics manual it states:

City NoX (No X Band sensitivity)
In this setting , when you put RX65 in the City mode, it will not respond to any X band signals.

NOTE: These settings only apply when RX65 is operated in City mode. X-band sensitivity is not affected when used in "AutoScan," or "Highway" modes.


So maybe the Escort and the Beltronics DO have difference "Auto" modes... ? ? ?

Yes I agree SpeedFreak, auto mode does make K band more sensitive where sometimes things seem to go off like distant Instant On bursts. Usually on highway I will detect doors from further away, in auto it just analyzes the signal more than jumps the sensitivity it seems.

x50 is K uneffected by autosensitivity.


I guess this is not the case for the rx65?

Well personally, I've done many tests with known K band sources with the X65, and as far as lack of sensitivity, AutoScan actually increases sensitivity, although I personally prefer highway because I don't like to be alarmed as much when I see high alert levels (maybe 1 or 2 levels above normal but then quickly drop) but still, makes me think something is out of the ordinary... :?
