I use my 8500 X50R on two motorcycles and my car. I'm a newbie, and never see anyone recommend the Auto function. Wondering why? Thanks

There is speculation that the Auto function may prevent early warning on some frequencies on K and X band. X50 may screen some faint alerts that may end up being early signs of instant on. Your RD will alert to any and every trace of radiation on any band if you run it in Highway
Depending on where you live, run it in Highway regardless.
Turn PoP off unless you have extra sets of underwear.
X off unless you live in NJ or some parts of Illinois. And I like LOUD tones too, but thats a preference.
What part of the country do u live in ubernut?
Do you read the forums??!! X is used in many more places than IL and NJ. I get more real LEO's from X than all the others combined and I'm in IN. A lot of states use X a bunch.Originally Posted by TexasRed

I said to check and see what they are running in his area. If no X, then turn that crap off. If so, then leave it on. Its that simple.
Let it on Highway mode all the time and when theres falses around switch to City. Be dure that there no X band guns where you are before turning it off.
I live in Northern Californis. Around Santa Rosa. I'm noticing ka band when I see police. X more for doors, but not totally sure yet. I'll stick with Highway, now, Thanks, I was running Auto.
