Default No Sound from my 9500i

    Hello!

I have a 9500i that I have had for about 18 months. Yesterday, the sound stopped working completely. It has worked flawlessly to date. I have tried powering the unit on and off, changing the volume, changing smartcords, all to no avail.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

I have no clue but try turning automute off too and your going to have to send it to escort for sure. I would also call escorts TS.

Also reset the unit too, that might fix it.

I know sending it to Escort to be repaired is a flat $60 repair charge. I have been tempted to upgrade the 9500i to a 9500ix anyways, but do you think if I send it in for the $129 upgrade the sound will get fixed in the process? Or do you think I will need to pay $60+$129?

It sounds (no pun intended) like your 9500i's speaker has blown. Escort now uses a special "high temp" speaker which resolves the blown speaker issues. If either you or a buddy are good with electronics and know how to handle them properly by taking precautions against static discharge, then you or your buddy can easily install the replacement speaker yourselves. The speaker simply slips into a rubber support grommet, and the speaker's wires have a plug which simply plugs into a jack on the 9500i's mainboard.

Try calling Escort or using the online chat tool on Escort's web site and see if they will send you a replacement speaker rather than you having to send in your 9500i. A long time ago I posted on this forum instructions for replacing the 9500i's speaker.

You bring up a good point, I would call and ask. Maybe for the $129 fee they will fix the speaker as well, then it might be worth it.

I'm sure you would just have to pay the $129 to upgrade it, and that they would replace the speaker since the speaker costs them maybe a whopping $2 or $3.

Thanks for the ideas. I will call and see if they will fix the speaker and upgrade it for something less than the $129+$60. I would really hate to drop $190 into it though to do both.

I don't recall (and my 9500i is packed away since its almost done on ebay), but isnt there a factory reset that you can do on the Escorts? I'd try that before sending it in.

Send it in for the upgrade to an ix this way its like spending $69 to upgrade it. They are not going to send it back with a blown speaker, and if they do it worked before you sent it in.
