    Default 9500ci immediacy of alerts

Did a search, but did not find any existing posts.

Does anyone else have a (rather long) delay in their 9500ci alerting to radar after a gun is triggered?

I have reinstalled my K and Ka moving radars into my car and found the 9500ci (in highway mode) is waiting about 2 or 3 seconds before alerting.

The V1 alerts instantly I hit the hold button on each radar's remote.
The 9500ci alerts a few seconds later.

I do not have the ZR4s connected, so I cannot test laser detection on the 9500ci.

This is interesting. Have you flashed your 9500ci with its most recent firmware update? Be sure to do so with the shifters attached. The only other thing which I can think of is to temporarily plug in the shifters and then see if you get virtually instant alerts after triggering either of your radar guns. Why? It occurs to me that the 9500ci's firmware might be periodically checking to see if the laser shifters are hooked up and operational, thus causing alert delays while it is checking.

I gotta test this idea with my K band transmitter and my Stalker Ka gun tomorrow.

When was the software updated last?
I have sold off the ZR4s, so I cannot test them. Might have to borrow some and see if it effects the time.

I have to ask the obvious question, is the 9500 ci radar head mounted so it is in the open? It's not behind plastic or a bumper or something else is it?

I thought that it was pretty common knowledge that Belscort products would sometimes not alert to quick pulls of the radar gun or have a delayed alert while the Valentine One alerted immediately and all the time.

That used to be the case. Bel/Escort over the past several months has been tuning their filtering algorithms. My STi and 9500ci with the latest firmware consistently alert to I/O bursts and even weak I/O bursts as short as 1/2 of a second in duration. The Bel/Escort engineers managed to pull this off without increasing the likelihood of false alerts which is a key requirement since false alerts are the number one reason why customers return radar detector purchases.

I think we have video of the V1 and IX vs the 35.5. The V1 did seem to beat the IX by a (sometimes noticeable) bit. Granted they were both turned on at the same time, so that might have flawed the results. We did K band as well, but the V1 didn't detect it. We think it fell out of tune or something. I'll look for the vids. If not we'll make new ones

Yes, the 9500ci antennas are completely open to the road ahead (and level). The 2 radar antennas are about 1-1.5 feet away from the 9500ci.

I was wondering whether it was just my unit (which may have a problem) or whether it was a common thing.

But I tell you what, there would be a big difference with Instant On K-band with a 2 second delay...guaranteed ticket. The Ka-band seems to alert slightly quicker than the K-band.

I might test tonight, and see if I get a reading on the Kustom Eagle prior to the 9500ci alerting, and video the result.

Definitely not the case with my ci and V1. If anything I expect it to be the opposite, the ci alerting and the V1 alerting afterwards.

I'll just throw this out there and you can take it for what it's worth...

Last year I was talking to one of their engineers and he told me that the ZR4 MUST be plugged in for the system to work correctly. They can be turned off but they must be physically plugged in...
