Escort 8500 X50 owners

Iam in the market for a radar detector. All my friends have x50s and they wanted me to get one two. I justed wanted some professional advice from you guys how how does the x50 does against 35.5 ka band. If you have any experiecned with this band, please care to share with me.

35.5 is hard for any RD to detect. The X50 is not one of the top performers for 35.5. The 9500 and the V1 are top rated for 35.5.

Mine does pretty good. I dont have any of the higher end units to compare it to but Ive had 35.5 alerts at night over hilly curves and had plenty of time to slow down before the oncoming cops have seen me I love the spec mode just for hits like that.

Good question. All I know is this one is the latest rev & seems to be pretty decent for the $$.
Next purchase will most likely be an STI or STI-R tho

Reading recent posts here makes me think that I should not be in a rush to spend a bunch of $ to replace my X50. The only thing I've seen that might be a useful upgrade based on where I drive would be the (seemingly) much greater laser sensitivity of the V1. (?)

Laser sensitivity is not a reason to buy a V1. Yes, it is marginally better than the others at detecting it, but 95% of the time you are going to be screwed unless you have a jammer or are not speeding. Buy a V1 because of its better overall sensitivity (9500ci/STI-R units not included) and the arrows... if you do not want it for those reasons, then you are just wasting your money b/c it won't really do anything to help you survive a laser encounter.

Is 35.5 your main threat in your area? The x-50 does well for the price I agree. For the best performance against 35.5 in the real world especially off axis I rank the winshield units as follows. STI, 9500 and V1. Dont get me wrong the V1 is slightly more sensative straightline in test , but it is poor at off axis on 35.5 , and any of the top 3 listed will give you plenty of alert time straightline, but off axis is what I find used in the real world more often.
