Turn the unit off. Hold down the 2 buttons on top and the mute button on the front. Turn the unit on while holding down all 3 of these buttons. This will reset it to factory settings. May help for a while but it will probably have to be sent in for a tune up eventually.

Thanks a lot. But I don't understand what causes this? Is there an update for it?

When you turn it on it does a self check. It is telling you if failed for some reason. It could give a self cal message or the BAD one the you got saying Service Required.
The full reset could still bring it back to life for a while. I think it is only 59.95 and it will be like new. Heat is one of the killers of RD's left up all the time.

    Hi EscortX50blue,

    First, welcome to the forum!

When did you purchase your X50? Better yet, what is its manufacturing date? The date code is the last four digits after the serial number. A date code of "4008" would indicate that your X50 was manufactured in week 40 of 2008. Also, where did you get your X50?

wow you know a lot and yeah it is 59.95 I called escort today. I got it in august of 07 at best buy. I personally think this is bs because escort is a good brand and now they want more just to fix it? Talk about hustling. Oh well not a big deal I just don't want to send it back cause it takes 10 business days I think. What is the steps that I could try on my own to fixing it before I send it back?

Is it because I have mine hardwired on the dash? Is it better to keep it up like by the rear view mirror? I've seen people do that but I never liked the idea of that.

I understand your dilemma. Unfortunately, there is nothing which you can try to fix this issue on your own. Why? Because the cause of the problem is internal to the LO board and chamber. And Escort's fix for the issue is both unique, proprietary, and is part of what helps to give Bel/Escort products their extreme sensitivity.

Yet, rest assured, Bel/Escort fully resolved this particular issue in the latter half of 2007. If you send in your X50, then not only will the issue be fixed (permanently), but also your X50 will receive the latest firmware flash as well. That is a good thing since there have been some undisclosed enhancements to the firmware which tweak the RD's performance. Your X50 won't display a new firmware version since the displayed firmware version is tied to whatever internal components are used in your X50, but when the returned service card is marked "FW", then this means that your X50 was upgraded with the latest firmware. Always save the service cards since these will help you to get the maximum price if and when you decide to sell your X50 sometime in the future. For example, I have three service cards for my STi -- one where it received the 33.8 fix, one for when I beta tested the new STi audio ramp-up firmware, and a final service card where my STi got flashed with the final version of the audio ramp-up firmware. These service cards mean that my STi performs exactly like a currently manufactured STi -- should I ever decide to sell it -- which I won't.
