what GPS chip they use is what really matters. If it is really sensitive then it should be ok, but if not it might have trouble.

I wonder if he his having trouble getting the thing to lock on to the satellite because those dumba$$es installed the GPS antenna in the trunk.

According to the thread, the trunk lid is made of plastic, and the OEM radio and GPS antennas are located in the same area.

In my car, the radio antenna is underneath the rear plastic bumper cover piece and the GPS antenna is underneath the dashboard, mounted to the top of an HVAC duct.

I suspect it will work just fine where they put it.

My sense is that these installers do quality work and are quite knowledgeable for the most part. And we know that Escort has said it's OK to mount the radar antenna module behind the bumper cover like they did, so if they say Escort also told them that mounting the shifters behind a mesh grille was OK, there's at least some chance of that being true. And if Escort told them it's OK, why would they question it?

I've posted the question on Escort's 9500ci forum; hopefully one of their engineers will reply with some more info.

If I'm not mistaken, the installation video on Escort's website stated you could mount the shifters behind a mesh grill so long as certain areas are exposed. RADAR will pass through plastic, but light (LIDAR) won't. So it's definitely decreasing performance with any plastic covering it.

Escort told me it was ok for my RADAR antenna to be mounted at an angle. When I moved it lower and made it horizontal (even behind a plastic air dam cover), it picked up much better.

personally a person like that would make a great rabbit, they think they are protected when they aren't. Crappy 9500ci installs are the new cobras.

Don't you think they would be better rabbits if they installed it correctly and they were amazed? Imagine if every single person on the road had a top of the line detector and a CB...

Hence the CB radios! Everyone would know where the cops are at all times anyways.
