Default 9500ix Radar Warning Delay - Normal?

Today I was playing with my radar gun and the 9500ix. I noticed that there is a 1 second delay from the time I hit the radar gun trigger until the 9500ix screams. If I do a quick pop of the radar gun trigger it never detects it. When I had the Whistler 690SE it detected that instantly. And if I did a very short trigger pull the Whisler would display POP.

With the ability of the 9500ix to lock out false sources, I would expect that it should immediately sound an alarm when a radar signal is picked up. I don't understand why the 1 second delay. That could make a difference in getting a ticket or slowing down by 1 second to reduce the damages. Is the 9500ix programmed to delay 1 second to avoid it going off with short stray garbage signals? That doesn't make sense to me. I do not have POP turned off on my 9500ix.

When I tested it with laser there was no delay. The 9500ix screamed as soon as the laser hit it.

Perhaps the Escort Rep could shed some light on this? I'm not sure if this is "normal" or if mine has an issue. I returned my first one after about 2 weeks because of many laser false alarms. The new one doesn't have the problem of it going off when my cell phone is nearby or driving in the late afternoon sun like the first one. Hope I didn't get 2 bad ones in a row.

What type of radar gun were you using?

The 9500ix along with other M4s tend to be somewhat slow in responding to radar and very vulnerable to quick triggering. That's one reason I bought the V1. I wanted to know exactly when I was targeted and I didn't want to miss a single blip.

Damn you Freebird, why did you have to direct me to that link? Ignorance was bliss. Now I don't know if I should hold onto my 9500ix. Missing those little blips is bad.... I want to hear them and start slowing down BEFORE I have visual contact with the LEO. In one of those videos the V1 went off about 10 seconds before the 9500ci alerted. When the 9500ci went off it was probably too late to avoid a ticket if he had not slowed down from the first alert of the V1. So now I don't know what the heck to do. There are way too many false sources around here for something like a V1. Yet the delay with the 9500ix and missing the quick pull I/O alerts makes me want to return my 9500ix and wait to buy it after they fix those issues.

I was using a Bushnell radar gun when I tested it. I've had the gun a long time and use it to measure speed on my RC airplanes. It is K band 24.121.

It is kind of sad that the Escort 9500ci seems to be more sensitive than the V1 in some areas but is misses quick pulls of the radar trigger so it needs a V1 to pick up the quick blips. On top of that, the ZR4 is a crappy laser jammer that needs a Laser Interceptor to fill in the gaping holes that it leaves open. If we could just mix all 3 together we would have one awesome product.

Why would you need a ZR4 if you have a LI?

I have the ZR4s installed as a backup system, in case something goes wrong with my LIs. They actually work quite well on my heavily Veiled car, against the guns we see here in SoCal. The main reason I don't use them is because they false alert to every Infiniti is sight. The LIs are also prone to the laser false alerts from Infinitis, but do a much better job of filtering them out. The LIs have maybe 5% of the false alerts that the ZR4s do.

What radar gun frequency? Did you have your 9500ix in Auto Sensitivity mode or in Highway mode?

K band 24.122. I originally had it on Auto No X but this last time tried it on Highway indoors with GPS turned off.

I played some more and posted at Escort Forum results. Essentially the response times were:

    #1 - 0.61 sec
    #2 - 0.38 sec
    #3 - 0.57 sec
    #4 - 0.27 sec
    #5 - 0.52 sec
    #6 - 0.88 sec
    #7 - 0.89 sec
    #8 - 0.35 sec

I'm guessing radar blips under 1/4 second duration are being ignored. Average time of the 8 pulls was 0.56 seconds which was better than what I thought it was originally. Caveat is that I don't have another RD now to see if the variance from 0.27 to 0.89 seconds is in the 9500ix or my cheap radar gun.

Those actually look like pretty good results. When the 9500ix is in auto mode I think there is around a 1 second delay for it to process the signal and verify that it is real, false, or a Cobra.
