That's what I'm wondering. If it uses the same suction cups, is it an improvement over the old mount or just different?

I think it will make most Belscort RDs more stable and not bounce around like they do on the old mount.

My 8500 with the original mount bounces too much but my main complaint is that the back of the actual detector rattles against the windshield because there is no rubber shock absorber like on the V1 and other high-end detectors. Does this new mount still have the back of the 8500 touching the windshield or is just a more stable mount?

Mine rattled up against the overhead console, so I bought those little round rubber stick-ons like you'd use on the bottom of a glass table top. Just tiny rubber circles with glue, really. I stuck one on the front right corner of the RD where it used to hit against the overhead. Problem solved. You could probably stick on on the back corner of your RD to keep it from rattling against the windshield. But I agree, Escort should provide a solution. Maybe the new mount is it.

I just got mine today. It is freaking awesome for me, they should have thought of this years ago. Doesn't come with any instructions, so here goes:

The HUGE difference is the new suction cups have a pinhole in the base. When you put the mount ON the windshield, you have to pull back on the tab (pointed to with the red arrow):

The tab has two male inserts that fit into the pinholes in the bottom of the suction cups (which allows you to remove all the air from inside the cups), the male inserts are seen at the red arrow here, from the bottom:

When you want to remove it from the windshield, you also pull on the tab, thus allowing air INTO the suction cups for easy release. I used it all day, and kept putting it up and taking it down, not bit of air was ever in the suction cups. I used my STi for the test, figuring it would be the heaviest of my Belscorts. It was rock solid, I don't see how they changed that, but it was much more solid than normal.

I can't help but wonder if they didn't do that on purpose. The majority of Escorts I see on the road are mounted pointing up like that. Tis the natural consequence of putting the controls on the top, which is a very poor design.

I already got a call from happya$$ asking for it, but I think I'm keeping it. Probably will work great for rental cars.

I agree. I have never been a fan of the top being lit up either. They are really disappointing me lately. Only blue (9500ix).. controls on top... lights on top. So much for mounting high and being inconspicuous....

By looking at the pics, looks like there will be an issue when it comes to leveling the RD. Can the angle be change with the new mount? With the old ones, you can bend it if necessary to correct the angle.
