Default 9500ix Changed RLC/SC Alerts After Escort TSR Upgrade

I just got an Escort TSR upgrade to my 9500ix.
I also updated its locations database with the latest 10-5-09 update.

Upon testing it, it failed to alert to both a Red Light Camera (RLC) and a Speed Camera (SC) when I was going in a direction other than that being monitored by both devices. It alerted to both prior to the Upgrade/Update. However, when I turned around and went by the RLC/SC in the direction being monitored it alerted to both as if somehow it became a directional alert.

I then proceeded to two other SCs where the road was far narrower (and I was closer to the SCs) and I got alerts in both the monitored and nonmonitored directions (which was the case prior to the upgrade/update). I had the new TSR turned off during the tests. Also, the TSR Update should have had no effect on the RCL/SC detection/alerts.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on and if somehow the detection range has been narrowed to reduce false alerts.

Anyone else notice any changes after either the TSR upgrade or 10-5-09 database update. I doubt the latter is involved however I can't discount it because I did not test the RD prior to updating it after receiving it back from Escort for the TSR update.

You are correct that the TSR option itself has no effect on GPS locations. Camera locations are done via GPS location data, the radar receiver has no effect on camera alerts. Radar sensitivity should not have been effected if you just had TSR installed (ie not the tune-up).

You may be having GPS related problems. If you are also noticing strange behavior from previous lockouts and/or marked locations or this strange and incorrect camera location alerts continue then I suggest calling our customer service dept for us to have a look at your 9500ix.

I should note that the changed alerts that I was referring to were the audio GPS alerts such as " Caution RLC Ahead" and " Caution SC AHEAD" .

After further reviewing the difference in behavior you are describing it sounds like your 9500ix was previously using the original firmware that used non-directional GPS location data. The current firmware, which is installed during TSR updated and available via Detector Tools w/out TSR, uses your direction of travel to reduce camera alerts when you are traveling near a camera location but in the direction that isn't monitored.

It sounds to me like it is performing as it should and does not need repaired.

    Thank you

This update has been out for months now. When will the rest of us be able to get it?

I'm not sure when it will be released to Detector Tools.

I hope this will be available for my Bel gx65 as well on line. Can I send my unit in for this upgrade?

    OK now I'm confused.

I just called ESCORT to ask about the directional filtering firmware change for RLCs and RLCs and they said there was none, only the TRS upgrade for the new special speed monitors.

Wow, that's actually a pretty useful addition ... directional alerts like the Cheetah products. I would assume this should reduce RLC falses on the freeways too. Nice.

Too bad it's currently only available to those who pay to have TSR added to their already $500 detector.
