Default Redline and falsing on Cobras...

I haven't seen much reported on this yet here, but I've found that my Redline is far more prone to false Ka alerts from Cobras than my V1 is.

While my V1 only throws a Ka false once a week at the most, I get 1-2 a day on the Redline. In several instances I've spotted the Cobra in traffic.

Most of the time I get a frequency around 33.6 on the spec display.

Both detectors have X and POP off, fwiw.

Has anyone else noticed more Cobra falses from their Redlines?

Not a RedLine per se, but my 9500ci picks up DirecTV dishes sometimes. They are usually a really weak signal at 33.7XX.

    I thought DirecTV was 18.3 - 18.8 and 19.7 - 20.2 GHz.
Satellite Ku Ka DBS FSS C L Ka/Ku Broadcast Bands
Ka-band is the newest satellite broadcast band. Ranging from 27 GHz to 40 GHz. Ka-band is used by Wildblue and DIRECTV. Wildblue uses Ka-band for delivering of satellite broadband and DIRECTV uses Ka-band to supplement their existing Ku band channel capacity.

DIRECTV plans to use two sections of Ka bandwidth. 18.3 - 18.8 GHZ and another 500 MHz band at 19.7 to 20.2.

Wildblue uses 19.7 to 20.2 GHz for the signal sent to the Wildblue customers dish (User Downlink) and 29.5 to 30.0 GHz for sending signal out to the satellite from the users dish (Users Uplink). Go here for more information on Wildblue Satellite Internet frequency allocations.

    Awesome.

So it sounds like some of the sensitivity issue is similar to the V1.
Program the V1 so it becomes a Spectre as well and it's sensitivity goes up too.......well I guess short of some falses and/or short IO/QT ie. what keeps the Belscorts more quiet than the V1. So, turn the "J" feature off on the V1 and you have a "Redline eater"
Nice. Bummer, more reason to keep the V1 I guess.

I haven't noticed many Cobra falses, only one in particular. A new Mercedes Benz E-Class pulled out in front of me and my Redline went crazy on 33.6-7, it didnt stop until the Benz turned off into a parking garage. I assume he had a Cobra, but I doubted it because of the price of the car. Who knows?

Ha! You would be surpised where Cobras will turn up. I've seen Cobras in Vettes, Escalades, and most recently a 2009 CTS-V (556 HP).

33.6 is a pretty good indication it's picking up a Cobra. Some of them cause
falses so strong it overrides Ka guard and any other filtering algorithm.

Mercedes E Class use radar with their cruise control. I wonder if that could be the problem?

If you still have your VG2, try running it with your RedLine.

What for, to "prove" that it's a Cobra causing the false? I'm pretty sure it is, in a couple instances there was an observable Cobra in a nearby car. The 33.6 frequency seems to be evidence as well, as this is a common Cobra falsing frequency.

Or is it to get the Cobra to shut down with a VG2 alert? Considering they can't pick up K band at anything less than point-blank range, do you think it'll detect a VG2 without smashing it over the Cobra?

The ones I've seen use K band, not Ka. The owner obviously had better taste in cars than RDs. Or his teenage son has the car and provided his own RD.

I agree as soon as you get 33.6 then there is a good chance it is a cobra, that is where spec display comes in handy. As you pointed out with POP off on the V1, cobra falses are super rare, that is coming from me being a Bel owner as well.
