    Default Redline first impressions

Thought I would give the Redline a test drive here are some thoughts so far!

*Build quality very good. (but it is ugly to me)
*Detection range K band is outstanding.

I have only had for 2-days so far no long road trips yet, also will have the V1 watching my back for any QTs, and can't do without the arrows. Over all seems like a keeper to me. Will update after I have spent some time with it!

    Don't have video equipment....sorry.

Just direct wired the Redline and hooked up the remote speaker from my STi, nice setup!
The Redline is going to be a great RD once all the bugs are worked out, Escort will have to address the QT problem at some point. But I can tell ya this Redline has some range!

For the ones who want a redline, but don't want to take a chance of buying one with bugs. How long would some of you guys recommend waiting for all of the kinks to be worked out?

    Hmmm...

That is a tough question. When the 9500i came out it was many months before Escort reacted to the complaints about the Ramping up issue.

However recently I had the 9500i upgraded to the 9500ix and was complaining openly on this site for about a week and on the Escort site about 4 weeks about a bug I found. Within 2 weeks of my findings being expressed on this site, I was quickly told to send it in for a firmware fix. I was very surprised at the great service so quickly. (Thanks again Larry)

Lets hope it takes a few weeks instead of months as I too an very interested in this product but I will wait until the issue is addressed.

I had my Redline for 3 weeks, and didn't have a single Ka band enounter, even after a 90 mile interstate trip and another 150 mile interstate trip. I did have a few K-band encounters, and the Redline was either better than, or at least equal to, the V1 on just about all of them, except one.

I posted this on the Valentine board a while back, but I'll repeat here. I had a K-band encounter where the V1 started alerting about .8 miles out, and the Redline remained silent until about .2 miles away from several cop cars, which was almost within sight of them. I was only doing about 30-35mph at the time and hit one redlight, so the whole thing took between 1 and 2 minutes to play out, and it was worrisome poking along with the V1 alerting and the Redline silent for so long.

When I tried to chat with a CSR at the Escort website about returning the Redline and getting a replacement, and the reason, the guy just kept cutting and pasting paragraph after paragraph (I'm assuming from some FAQ on the website) about how the police use I/O and you never know if the radar is really turned on until the last second, etc, etc. He didn't seem to be too interested in what I was actually saying.

While the one particular k-band encounter was worrisome, and the chat with the CSR was frustrating, I think the Redline will turn out to be a killer product for Escort. I dropped it off this morning at the Post Office office to return it to get a refund from Escort, in part because of the one problem I experienced with it and in part because the Sti-R is selling at such big discounts I figured that running it and the V1 would have me covered on the radar front.

You may have had a defective detector. My Redline alerts long before I have the cop car in sight.

That was why I had started out in the chat session with the CSR asking about a replacement. Due to very sporadic nature of the incident I wasn't confident Escort would have found the problem if I had sent it back for repair. I didn't want them to ship it back to me and say "oh, by the way, we didn't find anything". What made it more strange was that about .5 miles further down the road from the first encounter, there's a Walgreen's, and the Redline alerted a few seconds ahead of the V1, as it usually does at that point, so it was back to normal in less than a minute.

BTW, does anyone know if the Redline has the same risk of toasted LNA's because of excessive heat as the STi does?
