    Default Passport Qi45

What is known about this detector? I have been looking to get a custom install detector with good range and less cost (9500ci). I am hoping for some general info on the install process as well as the reliability of the range vs. detection. I am currently running 9500i no upgrade. If I purchased the Qi45, I don't believe I would be picking up the shifters for now as laser isn't heavily used in Utah and its illegal (don't need an extra ticket!).

    Thanks in advance.

If I were you I would try to find an STI-R from an authorized dealer before they completely disappear. QI-45 is just a remote 8500 x50 and you can find STI-Rs from authorized dealers for about the same price.

Does the STI-R come with the GPS lock out options? That has been one of my favorite functions of this radar detector is that I can lock out false alerts.

--So what your telling me is the QI45 is a waste of that amount of money based on the platform and detection?

First question has already been answered.

The second question depends solely on what you want. He is suggesting this from the "bang for your buck" perspective. If you really want a custom mount detector for cheaper than by all means get this model. It is about what you want.

For sure its all about what you want and what your wallet and give you, however if it is worth the money to wait and put it towards the STIR thats what I would do. The 9500i has been okay for detection but its laser is terrible. I have also been noticing some problems lately with Radar band problems as well with ramp up and detection. I guess what it comes down to is with regards to the Qi45:
--Is the platform and detection as good or no where near the STIR?
Whatever I purchase I want it to be worth the money in saves long term, but I just can't put $2500 or $2k out for the ci

I don't think anybody has done any tests with the QI45 yet but since it is basically just the remote 8500 x50 it should not be comparable to the STI-R in range. Like was said earlier, it all comes down to what you want to spend your money on. Do you want the GPS and little features that the QI45 comes with, or do you want the raw detection of the STI-R?

Ya sorry the site doesn't show it as having Truelock and neither do the SEMA videos that Roy posted on Youtube. I was thinking it did since drivin asked if the STI-R had GPS as if the QI45 did. Neither radar has a GPS feature, there isn't much that the QI45 has that the STI-R doesn't besides the ability to install the shifters into the antenna but the shifters don't work very well unless they are on a very small car.

The 8500 x50's platform is solid but the really isn't any comparing these two to one another, the STI-R is in a different league than the 8500 x50 platform. In terms of detection the STI-R will blow the Qi45 out of the water.
