Default 9500ix False Alerts and bands

    Hello everyone,

I've owned my 9500ix going on three months now, and it seems to be a great RD. I live in the NYC area, so given the traffic conditions and excessive amount of red light cameras, I think it was the best RD for the circumstances. The red light camera GPS feature is really valuable - it has alerted me to a lot of cameras I wouldn't have been looking for.

Anyway, my question is about different band alerts and the likleihood of it being a true alert or not. I know different states use different types of equipment, but I'm not experienced in what would be the most likely in NYC. I do have some idea. There aren't a lot of speed traps in NY given the road conditions (heavy traffic most of the time), BUT I have received just about every alert that the 9500ix gives.

X-band: I know most of the time this is a false alert & the mostly likely band to get a false alert on & I don't recall seeing any LE during these alerts.

K-Band: This is the second most frequent alert and I can only recall once or twice that I actually saw a LEO during this alert

Ka-Band: I have only had about 8 of these alerts and there is only 1 I can recall where it was in the area of a known speed trap. How likely are these to be false in NYC?

Laser: I have only received 1 of these alerts getting on the beggining LIE-BQE ramp towards Brooklyn. Since I know this has to be shot at the car, I'm fairly sure this was a false alert, but I never heard of false laster alerts.

Just to note, I bought a mirror mount for my 9500ix so it's positioned below and forward the rear view mirror. I like the mount it is much more visually accommodating that on the window and looks better.

Last question. I was reading on this forum that new firmware is out for 9500ix but only available for the newest ones bought from Escort, and that it has:

Just some minor tweaks that older 9500's don’t have. But mainly database RLC refinements, and an ~8% increase in response/performance.
Does anyone know when this firmware upgrade will be available to the rest of the 9500ix owners? Thanks.

Have a look at these threads

If you're mostly in the city, you could pretty much turn X band off. But careful, Jersey still uses X.

Owned an Escort 8500, V1, and now the 9500ix.

As a fellow NYC driver, I can safely say, NEVER ignore a Ka band warning. I drive the Hutchinson every day to work, and the NY State Troopers use Ka exclusively. X band; other than NJ is usually a false. I've never had a K warning within NYC that was actually a real threat... so seeing a LEO was more than likely pure coincidence than an actual threat. There is a spot on the I95 northbound in the Bronx between exit 5 and the Whitestone Bridge that always alerts me to laser, however it is not an actual threat. I have also noticed cars with bright LED taillights (1G Infiniti FX comes to mind) will trigger the laser warning sometimes (I have yet to have this happen on my 9500ix, but then again I've only had it a week). Long Island LEO's shoot laser especially on the NSP, steer clear.

The one place where the 9500ix will SHINE after 3 trips will be the i95 going into CT. There are SO many X band falses out there I might as well put the other RDs away.

I also got the newer model 9500ix I think... it will plug into the computer USB only, no power source. I'll check out the firmware upgrade tonight.

Congrats on the 9500ix purchase. For us NYC drivers, it is a godsend, especially with the redlight camera locations. The V1 I had was definitely better on the open road AWAY from interference, but I'll take the small Ka band performance hit for all the other features the 9500ix has!

Thanks taylormade for those excellent links, and thanks themyst for such a detailed explanation of what to expect in the NYC area, especially the note about the use of laser in LI. Figures Nassau and Suffolk County cops would be using laser.

Good thing you noted that, I was getting a little to confident driving on LIE and Meadowbrook with the 9500ix. Looks like I might have to look into getting a jammer.

Thanks for the great info guys, much appreciated. And I just wanted to give a shout out to countryjoy for making great mirror mounts.
