Default XBand False? Anyone had this problem?

I purchased my 8500 X50 (M4 I believe) last May and have liked the extra protection. There have only been a couple of times that I felt I had an "amazing" long range detect, but being my first radar detector, overall I have been satisfied. Until about three months ago my X50 lit up full blast on an X-Band hit while driving through my neighborhood where it is usually silent. I continued thinking it was a real source, but it did not go away. I had to turn off the unit and back on to get it to clear, I figured it was a fluke. Another month passed before this happened again, but in late February it happened three times over a two week period. I reluctantly sent my unit in for service two weeks ago. Last Thursday I received my X50 back, (very fast service IMO), but the first time I pulled out of the drive-way it hit a full blast X band. I drove 4 miles seeing if it would clear on it's own, but no luck. Now my 20 minute commute is interrupted with 3-4 non clearing X-Band hits. I called again for service, with "It worked when it left our facility" as an unapologetic response.

I have a long trip and worry the unit is offering very little protection right now.
For now X-band is off, but it was so quiet on X band before (maybe three specific points around town), I don't feel I should have to turn off features to feel that I am still protected.

Do you have any electronic devices in your car when this happens, such as a cell phone? Next time it happens, try turning things off one by one and see if the alert stops. You might find it's something nearby that's causing the false.

I've heard of instances of certain cell phones interfering with RDs, though it's rare. Another possibility is electrical noise. Maybe try your X50 in another car and see if it happens. Or get your battery/charging system checked.

Where are you located? Some places they don't use X band at all and it can be safely turned off.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

Cell phone is the only other device I have in the car, but not plugged in. You mention the car and I don't recall if I ever had it happen in my wife's car, but I don't drive her's much and usually without the detector, she thinks I'm breaking the law. The cellphone is an interesting theory, I will have to try that out, unfortunately I have had the phone longer that the detector, so one would think the problem would have existed before. I am in the Tulsa area but commuting to Denver, CO for work over the next couple of months. I am reasonably sure that I do not "need" X band, but over the first 7 months of the detector's life it was so quiet on XBand, I figured why turn it off just in case some small town has some old radar gear.

When I was researching detectors, I thought I recall someone indicating the same problem, but with the older S7 models. This was why I bought a new one instead of a refurb, sort of regretting that now. I did add the extended warranty while getting the first RMA.

Tried the X50 in my wife's car. With the exact same result, at least three X band hits that would not clear. I even left my cell phone at home to eliminate that as a possibility. Going to RMA it again.

It sounds like it could still be malfunctioning which is very unusual for us to miss when we service these. You mentioned in your first post that the X band alerts do not clear but you also state that you got 3-4 X alerts on your 20 minute commute. I don't understand. Are you using ExpertMeter mode to display multiple signals and they are showing multiple X band signals? Please elaborate

FYI: Passports which we recently serviced and are still requiring service get the highest priority possible. Your Passport will be back to you very soon.

Our sincere apology for the continued inconvenience.

Sorry for the confusion. In the experimenting stage of the problem I would let the unit continue to alarm for several miles before resetting, once for 12 miles of my 18 mile commute the Xband stayed on. Before servicing the problem at its worst was 3 times in two weeks. The first time I used the unit after service, I did not make it to the end of the driveway before the X-band went off. I let the unit alarm for about 5 minutes before powering the unit off and back on and went off two more times during that commute. Now I am having to reset the unit 3-4 times during my commute. I have obtained another RMA, but am working out of town and was going to send it in when back home. Thanks for your concern.

What is the cost for the X50 upgrade for the K band traffic monitoring filtering. I am working in Denver and the K band hits are driving me crazy.

You can only have TSR installed if your X50's FCCID has "M4" in it. The FCCID can be found on the serial number label.

If it is an M4 X50 then we can install TSR for $39.95. Call us to have TSR installation added to your RMA.
