Default Tune up worth it for my 8500?

    Hey all,

I just received a postcard from Escort outlining all the radar detectors they have. They also included the 'tune up' special for $59.99 or something like that. Now my 8500 (not the X50) goes LASER when I hit the horn. Will that fix it or should I just save my money for a Redline?

If you decide to get it tuned up, specifically tell them about the false laser alerts. Some cars with a noisy electrical system are known to cause false laser alerts on the Escorts. Have you tried the RD in a different car?

Yup, same thing. I have it hard wired in the car and it does the same with the cig lighter adapter.

Forget it. I just read it on the site that the tune up was not for my detector.

"Please have your unit on hand when calling. We will need the FCC # and Serial # located on the bottom of your unit. TSR Tune-Up is only available for some PASSPORT 8500 X50, PASSPORT 9500i and early PASSPORT 9500ix models"

    oh well, start saving!

i get the tune up every 2yrs i think its worth it and every time they replace something and it always works great when it comes back. I think heat realy kills RD because after a few months of Texas summer heat my detector seems to detect less.

I just sent my 8500 X50 in today for a tune up. I was talking to Escort and told him that my Ka band range was shorter. He said it was probably I/O that I was encountering. He acted like he didn't want me to send it back. I owned this detector for over 3 years now, and I know when it isn't working properly. I was considering buying a Redline in the near future, but I may reconsider. I don't want to feel like Escort was doing me a favor by allowing me to send my dectector in for a tune up. I also agree with what Radman159 said about the heat. I use mine in Florida. I also own a V1.

If it was me I would for sure get the tune up. Then you could decide on a Redline and then your 8500 would be your backup.

Same problem here...horn set off my 8500 LASER alert. Occasionally when I punch the gas it would happen too. Thinking about sending it in for the tune up.

    I have a 9500ix now...but would like to get the 8500 in tip-top shape for back-up.

If you send it in...let us know your findings...

It's only 60 dollars. Tune it up and know that it is working right. Then save for the Redline. You always need a backup.
