I was just wondering what the fine was for using a radar detector in va was? also, i've been reading that VG2 is what va uses to detect detectors, so is the escort 8500 or the 8500x50 really "invisible"? Anyone in VA have anything to add?

Also I bought one used when i was 16 like ten years ago, and I just found it in a box and wondering if its even worth putting in the car, its a escort passport classic. can anyone tell me anything about it?

That detector has little to no use for actual driving, but it's somewhat sought after by collectors. I think the fine in VA is somewhere around $100 with all fees included. Think it's $95 actually.

Yeah the penalties most of the time in VA are rather light compared to places like CANADA!

Generally in Ontario its around the $175 mark and Quebec is around the $611 mark, but they can go both go well over $1000... And they have Spectres! And they "dispose" of the detector for you. I should point out that Va's law lets you keep the detector, or at least get it back within a reasonable time. So... nothing to be worried about.

if i am not mistaken StealthJamal, who is a member around here, lives in VA and has both the x50 and the original 8500. he uses the 8500 for ka since it performs a lot better and the x50 for the rest. as far as i know, both of them are undetectable by the vg-2, but there are rumors of a few spectre III's coming to va in the future (9 total i think - lol). there is a new unit from bel that is coming out real soon called the STI. however, no tests have really been done on this yet, other than tests against the spectre III. it is advertised to be invisible to all radar detector detectors and we know it is (even with the noses of the vehicles touching). but, the only problem is we dont know how the radar/laser detection performance is yet. as for the fines, i have no clue. and i'd suggest finding a collector that would be interested in your old school detector. i've seen them on ebay, but don't know how much they go for.
