VR IMO stumbled on QT, they didn't implement it, it was there from the beginning.

I don't think anyone is being naive, everything is well documented on both ends and understood.
I think we just don't know what to do. If we could make the perfect RD we would, but all we can do is complain enough to get them to do something about it.

We whined about sensitivity range and touted the V1 for having it, while putting down others. only to get one manufacturer out of all of them to do something exactly what we yelled about for so long... RedLine.

I've had questions about some of the UHP possibly using QT before. I've had conversation with one that doesn't follow "proper tracking protocol" when sitting in the median on I-70 and very much sounded like he was QT'ing folks to avoid letting on any radar detector users know that he runs a tough chunk of interstate.

I followed one yesterday for about 5 miles going down kind of a twisty turning canyon. I got two Ka hits with the Redline early on and then nothing for the next 2 or 3 miles and a dozen cars........OK, I figure he's not on the button anymore....... And then wham, he flips a b!tch and lights up some guy in a Eclipse hauling some major azz.

Did he radar him?? I don't know, but it worries me that he was radaring the entire time and the Redline sat deaf waiting for the 1-5 second threshold.
MMeteor I am not trying to pick on you buddy, but the fact of the matter is if Q/T Fast I/O or whatever a LEO calls it, is in your area confirmed, then get used to missing the shots, and yes even with a RedLine. The best solution at this current time against this threat is the V1. That is why I chose it, and the only reason. I was an Escort fan forever till my experiences.

Monte1:
Absolutely. But it isn't like the V1 is the only RD alerting to QT or IO and all the rest are silent.

Cauhauna:
Yes, that is exactly what it is. Only V1 and Whistler alerts to QT reliably and consistently.

Monte1:
It still doesn't mean all the rest are SILENT. They aren't.

Monte1:
Your world and part of the country aren't like mine. If they want to get a fast reading where I am, they don't jerk around with QT...they just LASER you to death. The word "sparingly" regarding QT in my neck of the woods is actually generous since I've NEVER been hit with it.

Cauhauna:
Dude, are you kidding? You were there when we tested the K-band sports radar in your driveway, and that Bel or Escort detector you had missed nearly everything, while the V1 picked up nearly all. I remember the V1 maybe missed 3 shots in 10 mins of pulling And your Belscort picked up 3 shots out of the 10 minutes?

Monte1:
Yes, I remember being there. It was my K-band sports radar gun so I have to remember. But what I don't remember at all are the numbers you just quoted. That's like going out with some fat whale that had measurements of
43-37-48 and then telling all of your friends how you dated this smokin' hot girl with measurements of 36-22-35 to make everything skewed so you'd look good.
We weren't firing the gun at the Rx-65 for 10 minutes either because it was nut freezing cold that night. However, I haven't sent it off to my brother-in-law yet so I'll pop a few off later today to see what I get. I can already tell you the results...it won't be as sensitive as the V1 but it certainly won't MISS everything. It'll be respectable.

Cauhauna:
Also, don't think for a second GSP doesn't shoot QT. Our neck of the woods are just 90 miles apart, and it is a real threat here. SRTGA also deals with it.

Monte1:
How many times have you been hit with it in the last year and where?
What band and was it only Interstate?

Cauhauna:
Also, saw rear laser right near your exit the other day. Just a heads up.....

Monte1:
Ouch...that's scary. I thought the front jammers would be enough but maybe I need to bite the bullet on rears also.

Cauhauna:
Ok, here is the correct answer:
# of States where QT is a potential threat: 50

Monte1:
Now let's break those 50 states down into the total number of counties, cities, towns, or municipalities and look at it. POTENTIAL could still be used for all of them just like it could be stated that an acceleration problem is POTENTIALLY there for ALL VEHICLES besides Toyota, but potential and reality don't link up. I can tell you that Coweta County Sheriffs and Newnan PD would be eliminated from the stats for usage...even though they potentially could. The vast majority throughout the country don't either. Why should they? There's PLENTY of business for them just using CO for cars without RD's.

Keep dreaming fanboy. He didn't switch to pop mode. He simply switched on and off faster than the Redline could detect it, and just like in the videos on this site, it eventually caught an alert or the operator got slow and lazy.

Go back and read the whole post. I had no idea YOU were in the car with the LEO.

When did you test a Bel STi-R, RX65 or Escort C65? Have you ever checked out 35.5 Ka with your V1 in POP mode, or K Band with POP turned off on the V1?

The V1 is very quick on K-Band in POP mode (it's a POP frequency) but you still missed three shots? Thats real good, but still not perfect. Not 100% like you claim below.

Ok, here is the correct answer:

# of States where QT is a potential threat: 50

49..........Hawaii is strictly Laser. Preparing best for threats you see 99.9% of the time is being best prepared. Focusing on the .1% potential threat is a waist of resource if you compromise on the other 99.9.

Detector buying advice: If you want your detector to alert to radar that is within range of being detected 100% of the time, buy a v1.

Doh! Within range is the key point. Who cares if I can detect a LEO on every shot if I can't detect him before becoming the next target. Thats why your over here dropping turds anyway isn't it........you want my range![replacer_img] Why not go blast Whistler for their near sightedness?

If you want a detector with the maximum possible range but that may or may not actually alert to the signal depending on length of transmission, buy a Belscort.

I did![replacer_img]

And, saving the best for last:

It's pointless to argue what states are using quick trigger. This is a different scenario then say, finding out what equipment the officers are using. This is a METHOD of using a radar gun. What does this imply? The way the officer uses the radar gun will be at the officers discretion.

How many states is quick trigger a threat? Given the number of officers out there, probably 50. How likely is it that you will run into said officer? It is still an unknown variable.

Here is the point: Just as the way the officer uses the radar gun is at their discretion, it is at your discretion as to what counter measures you will use to defend against the usage of radar.

The M3 platform and the V1 are solid performers, but let's face it, both are not perfect on "quick trigger." They both need improvement and we have to push for this. Right now the V1 is the "king of quick trigger." But that doesn't mean that everyone wants to have more false alerts so that they may pick up this signal when they feel that QT is not a threat in their area. I don't see why we can't just run our detectors and just be happy. After all, if someone gets hit by QT it isn't your problem, regardless of what detector they used.

I'm glad you posted this because I just got back in the house from testing both RD's (V1 3.872 & Bel Rx65) to get the current story.

Test #1: As quick as I could possibly press and release the trigger -
V1 - 8/10
Rx65 Hwy - 8/10

Test #2:
V1 - 7/10
Rx65 Auto - 6/10

Test #3: Approximately 1 second or a hair less -
V1 - 10/10
Rx65 - 10/10

I have no horse in this race since I own both horses and could care less what the outcome is other than for self knowledge and gratification. It is what it is.

What it did tell me is that I probably won't be sending the Bel to my brother-in-law but will be keeping it for myself as a backup or even a quieter ride from time to time. I kinda totally forgot what a decent RD the Bel really is. I know it doesn't have as long a distance capability as the V1 on CO K, but it wouldn't get me any tickets either. Coweta county runs nothing but K in their Sheriff cars and they're patrolling all over the place while moving and leaving it on or occassionally parking in a median.

I wish I had a way to test both for different KA bands.

I agree, very well said.

However if we are all going to keep complaining about it i believe if we know what states are using QT we will be better off. I don't believe even 1/4 of them use it at all.
Sure there can always be that random LEO anywhere, but to know where its more than likely to happen is helpful.

It wouldn't bother me if we posted a list, but I believe that any list will be inconclusive as the tactics leos use to nail us are discretionary and that the argument will rage on between escort and V1 users until Escort fixes the problems with quick trigger.

Yes, but i also believe it will help Escort & VR understand the problem better to fix it appropriately. It will help new users better understand before they make a purchase.
If i lived in TX and saw this posted list i know i needed a V1, whereas if i saw the list and live where i do now i could by an Escort and have little to worry about and be happy with the Escort features i love.

It may also give the manufacturers some insight on weather it should be a switchable feature or not.
