    Default Strange KA encounter

Hi everyone. When i use my escort radar detectors i usually keep them in spec mode
because i like to know what i am being monitored with. Well yesterday going down the express way I received a weak KA signal that read 34.150. As i crested a small hill i received this same signal to full strenght all the way up to the leo who was about 1.2 miles away. The funny thing is the signal never changed stayed right at 34.150. He was using c/o and the nearest car was about .5 miles behind me. any ideas about this strange frequency?

It's pretty rare, but word is that there are some old Stalkers out there that were actually produced to operate @ 34.2 GHz. I believe that one of our long-time members, GTO_04, actually verified this because he personally knew an officer who had one, though the officer mentioned that performance was pretty poor compared to newer units. Your 34.150 alert is well within the +/- 100 MHz bandpass for one of these.

I remember mention of some older ATRs running @ 34.9, but I've never heard of 34.2 being used by Stalker before.

My first guess would have been a Cobra, until he saw the LEO. If I saw that frequency, I probably would have ignored it and gotten a ticket.

I don't think I've ever gotten a false on KA band. Usually if I get a KA band alert, I always respond.

I never ignore a Ka alert regardless of frequency!!! Any alert over 4 bars on the V1 gets an immediate response regardless of band, X included. You just never know what they might pull off the shelf somewhere!

Nine-c1 and I had a discussion on that very issue. Because Ka is relegated to speed enforcement LEO can operate just about anywhere within the Ka band. Like you posted, 34.150 is well within the bandwidth. Reqardless, where I live any Ka hit is the real thing period.
