Depending upon reflections/bounce, etc. just an ordinary K/Ka frequency can trigger the POP alert. POP alert is trying to detect those small/weak frequency that it is looking for. It can not tell the difference between a 67 ms frequency that is from a real POP radar gun or just another door sensor/crap detector that is reflecting/bounce in the form of a 67 ms burst.
It would be interesting to see on the frequency TECH display what the POP alert was picking up, obviously if you saw a POP alert combination with Ka, I would highly error on the side of better be safe than sorry, K band just sucks, it is so polluted, just like X band, thank goodness I just have to deal with one band K.
If an officer gave me a ticket, and I found out he had a POP radar gun, I would grill him in court so bad, there would be enough reasonable doubt regarding the operation of that radar gun that the judge would have to throw the case out.
My thoughts on POP, I just place it next to instant on, don't want to be up front by yourself, does not matter if you have a RD, it's too late if they instant on you, so whats the difference if your up front alone and speeding, and the LEO POPs you nothing, s hit happens. Have to drive reasonably smart. There are the circumstances that with a alert you can possible shave a few mph of your ticket, if you are alert enough to do so, and that could help in some form. And there is the facts that POP radar can be significantly off from the true mph, there by crucifying you with an undeserved penelty, but back to what I said above, if I found out I was given a ticket by a POP radar gun I would fight it in court and strongly believe I can have it thrown out.
