Default The 8500 non-X50 refurb. blues...

We'll I guess you can get the just of this thread by the title. I ordered a refurb 8500 non-x50 last late Dec. and it has been a great performer with an 1.75 mile Ka detection in the not so best favorable conditions. I've got to say, been great for the money spent. I thought maybe I got a good one and lucked out... Well, the other day the damn thing started wiggin' out on me with the max number of X and Ka bands signals (in Exp. Mode) going off all at the same time. This was on one of my normal routes which I know there's no possible way all the X bands were truely present. I did not see any sources for Ka either. It has done that to me a couple times since in other areas of my normal routes but still remains reliable on "real" radar. Should I go ahead and send this thing in as my 6 month warranty is rapidly approaching the end? Thanks for your help...

Try a hard reset to see if it helps.

I would definitely try to send it in before your 6 months is up.

<<JAZZY>>, your transition from unreasonable V1 zombie to reasonable, unbiased radar detector user(reviewer?) is getting more and more difficult to ignore. Look at you being the first to jump in and help out a Belscort user with a problem. I don't know how much more of this I can take! Stop it!

Mine's been a great performer too. They don't like heat much. With the weather warming up, have you been leaving it on the windshield parked in the sun?

After getting my 8500 back from escort for warranty work on the 6 month warranty for the refurbs, all I can say is WOW! This is a completely different RD. I've had a 1.5, 2.0 and 2.2 mile confirmed detection all in the city. The 2.0 and 2.2 were mobile "this is your speed" units. Haven't had any long range Ka detections yet. Can't wait to get on the highway and see what it does against the state troopers!

Ya the old 8500 (S7) were a bit touchy and sensitive to heat issues. But they preformed great. My GF has my old 8500 that i had referbed and its been working great for 3 years so far. If it gets wacky again ill sent it in.

I was considering upgrading but after seeing what the 8500 is really capable of, I see no reason to upgrade... I don't think pop is an issue in my area so I don't think there is really anything to gain.
