Default 9500IX alert from a decent distance

Some of you know I am considering returning my 9500IX, I am giving it a week to see if it works out or not.

On yesterdays drive home I approached the skyway bridge (southbound 275) and as I reached the first small canal bridge leading to the toll plaza I received a Ka alert. No LEO in sight, alerting with 1 or 2 bars. I drove through the toll plaza and checked off to the right hand side where FHP hides at times waiting for certain types of cars to punch it and draw attention... nothing. 1.8 miles PAST the toll plaza out on the northbound lane of the bridge was a FHP pulled over to assist with a broke down vehicle. The total distance is somewhere around 2 miles, I thought that was pretty good.

This mornings drive in yielded exactly 0 hits, saw 3 LEOs not running radar. A word to those who travel the skyway commute, FHP likes to camp out with laser on Friday mornings. Be careful leading up to the bridge at all on-ramps.

My wife's 9500ix gave a 3.7 mile warning on a K-band speed sign one day, and 3.5 mile warning the next day.

We had driven back past the speed sign heading outbound over the same route and didn't come across any other radar sources both days, so I'm sure it was only the speed sign the 9500ix was alerting to (no stores nearby, just woods). Of course it didn't give a constant alert until I got within about 1.5 to 2 miles, but it did start alerting at a minimum of 3.5 miles. This is the fartherest I've had any detector alert. I didn't own the Valentine or the Sti-R at the time we were driving this route, woudl have been interesting to see how they did. The Whistler 695 alerted about 1.3 miles, and an RX65 at 1.5 miles on another occassion (before I had the 9500ix), which isn't bad, but was way short of the 9500ix.

The M4 platform seems to do pretty well, inspite of getting bashed on here.

I have had 2 + mile alerts with my IX several times.

The M4 platform is just fine. Some over state its less than sensitive off axis detection but for real encounters its a champ, especially adding the useful aditional features benefits.

I run a V1, 9500ci & RedLine and in comparison my 9500ix is by far the best well rounded unit for price features and performance. Its only a few seconds behind my V1, and doesn't have any issues with any radar band like some RD's. Sure the others in combo give me incredible range and off axis performance, but my 9500's never failed me with close to 100k on them and over 2 year of driving like a maniac.

IMO everyone should own a 9500ix or 9500ci at some point in there life, nothing else really compares. The features are really useful for realistic users, us diehards are focused a bit too much on every bit of sensitivity/reactivity.
A save is a save no matter how sensitive your RD is, or how far you detect it.

Allow me to commend you. That is one of the most balanced and thoughtful comments I've seen on this forum. Some comments on this forum read like Car & Driver magazine, which will have statements like: Car A "smoked" Car B with a 0-60 of 4.1 versus 4.2 seconds.

The 9500IX uses the same overused antenna as the RX65 so for the 9500IX to blow away the RX65 then either:

    RX65 is defective

Radar bounced funny that favored the 9500ix for that one run. Take multiple passes if time allows you.
