Quality difference between original Escort Direct Wire and Ebay ones?

Has anyone purchased both? I tried making my own direct wire using an old telephone cable and when I stripped the insulation, there are only 4 thin copper wires per color which make me wonder is that enough to carry the current? Are the Escort ones higher quality? For the most part, I do not have a problem buying generic items.

Esort's has a display with a mute button. Some of the eBay wires supply power only, so if you don't see the display/button... you're not getting one!

Yeah, I saw that on Escort's site. I'm talking about the plain one w/o the Smart display.

Don't go for cheap sh*t, especially when it comes to electrical components. I put a cheap ass radio in my first car and burned up the electrical system. LOL. Then again it was a VW so maybe it was normal .............

Seriously, the Escort direct wire is made for the detector and is good quality.
