Default chance to pick up a 9500i

I have a chance to pick up a 9500i for 150 from my buddy, he wants to buy the new iphone and he need 150 more to get it so he said he would sell me his radar detector for that much (feel like its a no brainer). i have been looking at it on this forum and on the escort site it seems like a pretty solid detector and for 300 off of the original price of a new one it seems like an amazing deal. it has the gps feature and which would make it really good for driving around town where i know the false alarms will definitely go off it. but i am yet to see how it will do on the highway, how is the range of this detector on the highway?

    For $150 I'd get it.

For $129(I think), you can send it in to Escort and get it upgraded to a 9500ix. So, you end up with a $280 9500ix, which is a very good deal. The 9500i comes with a red display, so you can tell Escort to keep it red if that's the display color you prefer.

I would get it. I just picked up a 9500i and sent it in for the ix upgrade for $129. I only ran it for two days though before sending it in. The internal clip was broke so it wouldn't stay on the bracket. Got it back Monday and I've been running it ever since. So far my upgrade ix has been working great.

A few things I've noticed since I've upgraded mine is the voice prompts are different, it no longer tells me when it has the GPS lock. It also has the setup to filter out the road side radar that is used for general monitoring of traffic speed. It also came with a 3 year sub to the red light camera database which I have yet to setup.

one thing i don't understand though the gps automatically locks out a false alarm, but what if the same cop sits in the same spot every time you pass that location will it determine that as a false and lock that out?

If the LEO was running K band you might get screwed, the 9500i doesn't block out Ka and Laser.

Could someone confirm whether or not it alerts if the signal gets over a certain threshold?

Yes you are correct it will. Two examples of this are right around where I live and drive. One is at the local PD. They seem to always have a car w/ KA running. My 9500ix has it locked out. Another is an office on our tollways. There is a really good chance of them having a car setting w/ its radar on but no one in it. It takes 3 passes w/ the same signal in the same location to lock out a signal. If you pass by the same location 2 times and it doesn't see it then the signal is unlocked. This autolockout can be tuned on/off though. You can tell its locking a signal out by the spinning GPS icon.

It only locks out a small portion of the band so if its a door then you still pickup the cop if he is there the next day.
