Seems most of you leave it in the car.
I guess south Florida's the only place you can't do that <sigh>

I just take mine down and put it under the seat.
Mine either comes with me or gets locked in the glovebox. Wires tucked away, suction cups mounted to the tint strip.
X2 on avoiding Walmart, it used to be that at 2am you could go to that place and not have to worry about running into "people of walmart" but its no longer the case. Anytime our local crimestoppers features video of a store parking lot, you can bet its walmart.
Yeah
last time I was in there at early morning hours a dubious character walks up to me and asks if he can use my cell phone. it didn't smell right. I think thugs can tell real quick when they smell their next victim vs someone else who's "street wise". Being stocky, and rough looking keeps me out of a lot of these situations.

Stealth mount in the visor works for me![]()
I leave mine in the console. I know I'm taking some risk here, but I just don't usually have enough pocket space for the RD and GPS and the visible part of the CB. I do however have it hard wired and am going to get #5 tint strip on this week and move my mounting hardwire behind it. After that I will seldom remove the RD or GPS anymore. My other windows are all tinted dark.
I also figure that if they went to the trouble to smash a window to beak in, destroying my plastic glove box to see what's inside will only take a few extra seconds.![]()
I have a vert so I leave nothing in view and if I am going to be gone for any length of time.
BTW working 15 years in NYC, I've seen it all.
Someone is ALWAYS WATCHING YOU.
Worst thing you can do is park, open your trunk and put something in it and then walk away.
Best thing to do is pull over a few blocks from your destination, put your stuff in the trunk and then head to your parking spot.
I also travel a lot on business, and hotel parking lots are prime targets for thieves.
Guests for some reason figure their laptops are safer in the trunk of their rental car than in the room.
Thieves use bluetooth devices to find laptops that are still powered on and left in the trunks of cars, amongst other tricks of the trade.
My V1 is mounted up high above the mirror behind the tint.
My windows are tinted and you can't see it unless inside the car.
I have it hardwired to the map lights and all that is there is a small RJ-9 plug.
If im in a shady place ill lock it in my glovebox. Got mine hardwired so not much to give it away.
If im going in for the day/night, even if im at my own house out in the country ill take it in with me. Keep it from thieves and the elements.
Had my window busted out last year for a cobra RD and $5 in change... $500 in repairs. I'd have shot them if id seen them. JUST like this...

Wasn't so much i cared bout the detector... it was the feeling of violation when you sit down in your vehicle and realize some scumbag has gone through all of your things.
Those guys got dead quick.![]()
I'm not so sure you guys are really protecting anything just because you mount it "high"
The notion that thieves won't know it's there and are just dumb crack heads is totally naive. These guys out doing this routinely have seen it all and done it all. When it comes to stealing, they are well educated. I think Mustang_Sally implied this.
Mounting your RD up high (which a lot of you seem to do) is probably the first place they'll look if that's where most people are mounting them.
I think you have not had a detector stolen because.......
a). You live in an area "less prone" to this type of occurrence
b). Statistically, it has not been your "turn" yet
c). you've been lucky.
d). You have a police officer's paranoia and do other things to lessen your exposure to theft.
e). You are in good favor with the power in the sky
(not necessarily in that order)
I hope noone comes back to their car and finds bad news, but i live in S. FL and at least here, I don't dare leave it in the car at all. Maybe the thugs here are just a lot smarter...Dunno.
By the way, i majored in criminal justice.
