    Default New iQ antenna horn

Read the post below on Escort's forum. The M4 horn is VERTICAL in the iQ, with a 45 degree reflector. Reminds me of the old school remotes with a reflector in case you had to install the antenna 45 degrees off. Thoughts?

Component-wise, the detection circuitry is a 9500i/ix's M4, every component is the same except the horn itself. The M4 antenna sits inside the iQ vertically. The horn is re-designed with a 45 degree reflector. Detection specs are the same as a 9500ix.

When I met with the engineers they took one of the units apart and showed me the antenna design. My first thoughts that there would be signal loss but there isn't. The engineer related that this was one of the most difficult parts in development of the IQ.

Very cool stuff Escort did with this detector... I really just keep looking at how amazing this display interface is! Add that to this crazy M4 modification (which doesn't do much for me, or most of us), it is still very cool.

For me the Novelty factor on this detector is HUGE, though worthless for my applications... it brings hope that at some point (as many have already speculated) this display/interface could be used in future models.

Remember the Bel 946i battery powered unit? That had a reflector for your pocket. Surely the performance of this new unit will be better.

This is a very cool design. It would be great to replace my RD and GPS with one unit. However, I've really grown use to the arrows. I don't think Escort can create the arrow effect unless they add another antenna. How cool would it be to see the radar on the map (I know this unit shows it for fixed camera's). Just add Trapster and this is the ultimate detector. All said and done, this unit is a consideration and will need more thought......

Or maybe you'll have to buy a complete new unit?

Hahaha, he had to be kidding This is a simple plaque at an angle of 45 degrees. That's all.

They could bend the plaque in the shape of parabola or even simple arc. Instead of excess sensitivity in the vertical plane would benefit a 3-4 dB in the horizontal plane. Designing the shape is 15 minutes.

The only thing I could think of would be forward arrow and no arrows if is a rear hit, that would make sense without a rear antenna.
