The only reason to turn X off is when you're in an area where it's not used (well, 95 percent of the USA) and you don't want to listen to all the falses from door openers, traffic light sensors etc.
In OH you'll see X in places so it's best to keep it on unless you KNOW it isn't used where you drive.
Highway mode gives you maximum sensitivity on all bands. Auto applies filtering to X and K bands. Auto NoX applies filtering to K and suppresses alerts on X completely. A "Highway NoX" mode would have been nice, for those who drive on the highway in places where X isn't used but also into places where it is used. You can turn X off in programming mode but that takes a bunch of button presses and is hard to do when driving.
