In this video the V1 was mounted low and the Redline high. You notice the V1 was alerting to all kinds of laser scatter but the Redline was silent until the kill shot. All Escort's have mediocre laser detection, my Blinder's with the new software even catch some laser scatter in this video. Also I don't really totally buy the "mount higher for better chance to detect laser scatter" theory. All my laser scatter alerts I have ever gotten the V1 was mounted lower on the dash.

My redline has some pretty good laser detection. Both in real world situations and with my tester. I shot my lower blinder head, real close remote was pointed to the ground and it was about 3 feet below my RL and my rl still alerted while my upper blinder heads didnt even go off. I dont know if my RL is extra laser sensitive or what. Not that it matters since laser detection is pointless, laser jammers or ticket you cant rely on a detector against laser.

Talking about laser detection is pointless !!! I have shot cars with a v1' without it going off

if you can't afford the lowest end of laser jammer then you need a ticket

But it seems the op don't speed too bad which is why he got clocked twice by laser without a ticket

My redline seems to pick up laser just fine, my RX65 has yet to pick up ANY laser shot, even when it should have...

Not that detecting laser is something you should consider anyway in buying your detector, but with my Redline mounted high, it seems to do just fine...

Escort claims that there are 5 optical laser sensors in the Redline. I've never tested mine with a gun, but I saw a cop shooting me with laser on two occasions, and it went off both times.

Both times, I got tagged twice; why, I don't know. I would have expected that it would take just once for a reading. Since I was the only car around and saw the setup, I can't really say that the Redline saved me a ticket, since I slowed down when I saw cops on an overpass and out of their cars on the second occasion.

I found the Redline to be one of the worst laser detectors I have ever owned (and the 9500ix the best although they may very well have the same sensor type but with different tuning). I would not let that in itself be a factor in keeping it or returning it even though the V1 is without a doubt the best in the laser category. I get scatter saves with it mounted high even though mounting high theoretically reduces the probability of laser detection. Even then, don't think the V1 is going to save you every time as all this will do is get you a ticket. As said, the beam is a small fixed width and you can be clocked at a substantial distance without any detector making a peep. The Redline still does radar very well, which should be the main reason one buys a detector. The only way to defeat laser is to know its limitations, get a (good) jammer, install the jammer correctly, test the jammer, and use the jammer correctly when driving. Also, given radar is detected best when mounting high, mounting low for laser protection may do nothing to prevent you from a laser ticket but make you more susceptible to radar tickets. Many factors affect laser detection ranging from the shape of your car to the color of your car, to the time/brightness of day, to the barometric pressure. Bottom line? Don't assume full protection for laser from any detector.

Allot depends on the vehicle when mounting high. My V1 is mounted RVM but is only pants pocket or hip height. The V1 picks up laser scatter from both front and rear.

It's the only one I've ever had that reliably picks up front laser...let along rear. I guess it is a trade off for the additional falses that some users report. I pull about 1 laser false every 120 miles, +/-. However, in those 120 miles I usually get 4 legit laser signals or more so at least for me the false tradeoff is worth it. The only other RD I have that consistently laser falsed that we can discuss is the 8500 Classic.

I'm repeating myself here, but, in my opinion, if my car is the target of LIDAR, there is a 90 percent chance the Redline, mounted at the top of my windshield, will alert. I found some local cops testing LIDAR gear a year or so ago, and I made numerous trips around the block, and the Redline alerted each time. Of all the times I saw a cop using LIDAR, and I was the target, it alerted. On one occasion, a guy just in front of me was the target of a CHP trooper on overpass, and I saw him shooting LIDAR out the passenger window - the guy ahead got a ticket. Redline was silent, but then, I was not the target. Either way, alert or not, if you're in the ticket zone, and you get shot with LIDAR, you're toast. The only thing the laser alert does for me now is scare the crap out of me, even if I am going PSL.

I remember it being reported here somewhere that the later model Redlines are more laser sensitive.
