I have been browsing many forums and fixit sites with no great leads on how to fix my issue.
Here is my history, knowledge and thoughts about this issue:
Bought Escort 8500 red in 07, I believe, had in 05 grand prix, never an issue.
bought Ford Explorer in '08, transferred RD to this vehicle. Only issue was Laser alerts when I honked the horn, thought it was wierd, but blew it off since it wasnt frequent enough to cause a concern. Got my dads 96 Camry this last summer and no issue with RD in it, not with horn, wipers, pumps, etc... all good there.
But, I Just bought 99 GMC Safari and RD started to alert laser whenever accelerating, this caused me to start my research. Couldnt find much but tips on how to clean it with a qtip, check ground, ignition noise, and I thought those werent the cause since everything else runs fine, Until I put in an aftermarket radio this weekend. The unit will play loud and clear when engine is off, but when driving down the road, after a few minutes, it begins to clip out, short bursts, getting longer and eventually will shut down, if i keep the volume up. Can also start to hear a 'buzz' but more like static fuzz that IS NOT going up/down with the engine RPM's. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor but have not taken it for a test drive. but merely starting and then accelerating cause the RD to alert Laser still.
Sooooo, do I have a failing ground? EMI from ignition coil or other component? How do I begin to troubleshoot these to find out?
