Default Look at this ugly install!!!

I need help! I asked my typically competent mechanic to install an Escort in my 2006 Mini Cooper S JCW. I don't like the results. Can anyone help me find an experienced installer in Puerto Rico?

I was told that this penetration of the lower grill is the only solution for my model Mini. If this actually true, I would like to know and then can move on to another solution. If there is a better location, I would like to know that too.

There is not much space available between the radiator and grill(s).

    Cheers

This probably wont help what I'm about to say but usually if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. If your handy with tools remove the bumper off the car and have a look for potential mounting locations. Keeping in my mind it is ok to mount the head behind a flat plastic part of the bumper.

That is awful. If I remember the receivers dimensions correctly then it should fit up higher between the bars of the upper grill. You would just need to work out the mounting bracket. If heat from the radiator would be an issue then a small heat shield can be mounted.

Unfortunately it appears you will not be able to relocate this unit easily as others have said. I would
think that relocating the sensor slightly higher (if there is no number plate) and removing the grill and painting the grill with a
low sheen black paint which will hide this sensor better? I have blackened grills before with great success!

I discussed the issue with the Escort tech support and they told me that the optional laser shifters (have them still in the box) the receiver does not have to be exposed. That opens some more possiblities. Stay tuned.

I ran into similar problems with mine which I did myself. The problem I ran into is inside the grill. There was just nothing to hook up onto so I had to drill holes into the metal bumper. My receiver is sticking out maybe half an inch but it is not nearly as obvious as yours.
