Default Anyone have their X50 fall

Hi I have 2 questions. The first being, has anyone's X50 droped b/c the cups lost their grip; what happened? The second is, anyone have their detector turn off randomly when you are driving? Thanks in advance.

    No on both counts.

On the first: When it is very cold out...suction cups really wont stick very well... especially if you are applying them onto the windshield for the first time.

And on the second... the best bet is your cord is either loose on the x50 or from the car if it just randomley turns off.

You also may have an electrical problem. Does it happen when you turn on/off somthing in the car? or are you just cruising along and it turns off? Lots of things can happen. Probably what air said tho.

Yeah I am giving him/her the most probable solution (IMO) and also the easiest to fix... better to start there first.

i had my x50 go on and off cause my hardwire had a bad ground when i first installed it... i could kick it loose with my foot and not realize it.

some creativity, zip ties, and some patience... and i managed to find a new ground point to solve my problem.

Why is the "ground" circuit so much more susceptible to a bad connection than the positive end? Always wondered that.

Anyway, the common technique for fixing a bad ground is to lightly buff the metal around the contact point with sandpaper or a fine-grained file. This always seems to work great, and I'm not really sure why. Try it.

I dont know if that statement is factual, but if so it is likely because most people tend to choose a poor ground point. Ground points are typically part of the chassis or metal infrastructure of the vehicle. I think most people just tap into them without prepping the surface or incorrectly assuming its part of the same current path as their source voltage.
